Eternity in Disguise

When we pause to delight in God’s works, we stop fixating on ourselves and start seeing what He is doing. This Sunday, Ptr. Isaac Cheung encourages us to encounter God personally in worship, where His steadfast love, faithfulness, and goodness come into view, and where we learn that evil will not have the final word.

Life Group Discussion Guide
1. Start with a prayer
2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
- If you suddenly had an entire day free from work, responsibilities, and errands, how would you spend it? Would you find it easy or difficult to truly rest? Why?
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
- Read the psalm. What is the meaning of Sabbath, and why did God command His people to set aside time to stop, slow down, rest, and worship Him?
- What does it mean for the righteous to flourish like trees planted in the house of the Lord? How is this flourishing connected to abiding in God and practicing the Sabbath?
4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)
- Are you truly experiencing the freedom that God desires for His people, or have you become a slave to busyness, productivity, personal expectations, and the pressure to always accomplish more? Why or why not?
- When you look at your priorities and daily routines, do you intentionally make room for worship, rest, and enjoying God’s presence, or do these things often become secondary to your responsibilities and pursuits?
5. Empower the hands (15-20 mins)
- What is one practical way you can practice Sabbath (intentionally setting aside time to stop working, slow down, rest, worship, and enjoy God’s presence) in your weekly routine? Are there habits, expectations, or commitments you might need to let go of to experience the freedom and rest God desires for you?
- If flourishing means living a life rooted in God, bearing fruit, and enjoying His presence, would you say that you are truly flourishing in your current season? Or are you simply busy, productive, and constantly chasing the next thing? What is one intentional step you can take this week to become more deeply rooted in the Lord, so that your life will continue to grow and bear fruit even amid life’s demands and uncertainties?
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
- Praise God for freeing us from the slavery of sin and the burdens of this world so that we may rest, worship, and enjoy His presence. Thank Him for being sovereign over all things, even when the world seems unjust, and the wicked appear to prosper. Rejoice that He has promised a flourishing life to those who abide in Him—a life rooted in His presence, sustained by His grace, and continually bearing fruit for His glory.
- Repent for the times you have allowed busyness, productivity, worldly expectations, and the pursuit of success to take priority over spending time with God. Ask for forgiveness for relying on your own strength, neglecting true rest, and allowing anxiety and worry to control your life. Pray that you may learn to slow down, surrender your burdens to God, practice Sabbath, and find your freedom, peace, and flourishing in His presence rather than in the temporary things this world offers.
