Still in the Midst of Chaos

Still in the Midst of Chaos

Is it possible to feel safe and secure even when everything around us is falling apart? This Sunday, Pastor Joseph Ouano urges us to trust in God’s protection, rest in His presence, and submit to His reign. Only then can we find true peace amid life’s trials.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)

  • Share a time you experienced God’s peace even though your circumstances did not immediately change. What helped you experience that peace?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)

  • Read the psalm. How does Jesus fulfill the message of Psalm 46 as our refuge, strength, and ever-present help?
  • Read Mark 4:35-41. How does the story of Jesus calming the storm help us better understand Psalm 46 and its message in the greater context of the Bible?

4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)

  • How often do you find yourself focusing more on the chaos around you than on the presence of God with you? Identify the root of why you get distracted and discouraged.
  • What situations in your life are you still trying to hold on tightly instead of surrendering control to God? Why is it difficult to let go?

5. Empower the hands (15-20 mins)

  • How can you create intentional moments of stillness before God this week so you can listen to His voice instead of being consumed by the noise around you?
  • Who in your life is currently experiencing fear or uncertainty? How can you encourage that person by pointing them to God’s unchanging presence?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)

  • Praise God because He is our refuge, strength, and ever-present help in every season of life. Thank Him that His presence remains constant even when everything around us feels unstable. Thank Him that through Jesus Christ, we have peace that is not dependent on our circumstances, but on His unchanging character, sovereign rule, and faithful love.
  • Ask God to forgive you for the times you have relied more on your own strength, plans, or ability to control situations than on Him. Repent of allowing fear, anxiety, and the chaos around you to distract you from His presence and promises. Pray for a heart that willingly lets go of the illusion of control, rests in Christ’s peace, and confidently trusts the God who rules over every storm and every circumstance.
