This Poor Man Cried, and the Lord Delivered

What happens when the desperate cry out to God? This Sunday, Rev. Jared Co opens Psalm 34 to show us that those who call on the Lord witness His deliverance firsthand, leaving us in awe of a God who is worthy of our praise. Let us gather to bless the Lord, pray boldly, and taste for ourselves how good He truly is.

Life Group Discussion Guide
1. Start with a prayer
2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
- Share a lesson or experience that has helped you personally believe that God is good.
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
- Read the psalm. What does it mean to “taste and see that the Lord is good”? Why is simply knowing about God not enough?
- How does Jesus fulfill the greater deliverance that David points to in Psalm 3? Why does this give believers confidence to praise, pray, and fear the Lord?
4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)
- What areas of your life is pride keeping you from depending on God? What would it look like for you to come before Him with the humility of a child?
- Do you truly believe that God is working for your good, or do you sometimes become doubtful and frustrated with His plans and timing? Where is this rooted?
5. Empower the hands (15-20 mins)
- Which of these three invitations (praise, prayer, or practice fearing the Lord) needs the most growth in your life right now? What has been holding you back? Identify how God wants you to praise, pray, and practice this week.
- How can you encourage someone who is struggling by pointing them to God’s faithfulness and the complete deliverance found in Christ?
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
- Praise God because He hears the cries of His people and responds with perfect wisdom, grace, and love. Thank Him for His complete deliverance through Jesus Christ, who accomplished the salvation that David pointed to. Thank Him that because of Christ, we can confidently come before God, knowing that He is good, faithful, and always near to those who seek Him.
- Ask God to forgive you for the times you have doubted His goodness, relied on your own strength, or allowed pride to keep you from humbly crying out to Him. Confess any reluctance to obey because of fear, distrust, or self-reliance. Ask Him to give you a heart that continually praises Him in every circumstance, seeks Him in prayer with childlike faith, and joyfully obeys Him so that your life may increasingly reflect His goodness.
