Life Group Discussion Guide
1. Start with a prayer
2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
– Share a time you experienced someone’s love and devotion for you even if you were being difficult. How did this experience impact your relationship with that person?
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
– Read the passage. What does being watchful of God and His flowing grace and presence look like in today’s context?
– How does Gospel Strength prevail and differ from the world’s concept of strength?
4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
– Be honest: How do you identify with the adulterers, sinners, and tax collectors that Jesus served, dined with, lived, and was crucified for? What holds you back from accepting that you’re a sinner in need of the Savior and His continued grace?
– Examine yourself: Are you able to love others consistently, even when they don’t reciprocate? What situations reveal your need for the strength of Christ to keep loving steadfastly?
5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
– Be watchful, stand firm, and be strong—which of these three do you find most difficult to abide by? What specific action step is God calling you to do this week?
– Commit to being more watchful this week: actively seek moments where you see God’s grace and presence, especially in difficult circumstances. You may consider starting a physical/digital journal this week to note down these moments to help keep your spirit refreshed.
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
– Praise the Lord for His steadfast love and constant presence that strengthen us to stand firm in faith, even in difficult circumstances. Thank Him for the example of devotion seen in Him and those who serve faithfully. Rejoice that through His grace, we can be watchful, hopeful, and continually refreshed in spirit, trusting that His love and power are always at work in us.
– Repent for the times you have closed your heart or looked away from God’s grace due to discouragement or past hurts. Ask for forgiveness for moments when you lacked patience and strength in serving or loving others, especially those who may be difficult to love. Pray that God renews in you a heart that is watchful, devoted, and filled with His love to persevere and stand firm.
