Leaven Out the Sin

God calls us to be holy and set apart from worldly morals. This week, Ptr. Renz Raquion reminds us that we need daily intervention from fellow believers to help us remain steadfast. Let us obey God’s commands and walk faithfully on His path.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
• Share a time you may have witnessed or been involved in addressing sin within your church community. How was it handled, and what was the outcome? What did you learn from this experience?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• Read the passage. What can be learned about the purpose of church discipline? (vv.5-8) Why is it necessary? What harm is done to a church body when they tolerate open sin among their members?
• How should the balance between “going out of the world” and building many close relationships with people in the world look like as a Christian? (vv.9-13)

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• What changes of behavior has God led you to make (or perhaps is still leading you to make) because you belong to Christ? Why are your new patterns of behavior a better reflection of the life of Christ?
• As a believer living in an immoral world, what is God asking you to remove and/or pursue in order to protect yourself from immorality? What can encourage and hinder you from following through?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• What practical steps can you take to actively pursue holiness and live as a distinct, set-apart follower of Christ? How can you make intentional changes to align your life more closely with Christ’s teachings?
• Consider the relationships in your life. Are there individuals with whom you need to have difficult conversations about sin and repentance? How can you personally contribute to fostering a culture of accountability and restoration within your communities? (You can start small and go deep through your Life Group or family members in the church)

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Praise the Lord for the wisdom and guidance found in His Word. Thank Him for revealing truths that challenge and inspire us to grow in our faith. Express your gratitude for His unwavering love and for the grace that covers us despite our shortcomings. Pray that your heart overflows with thanksgiving for His faithfulness and goodness in all circumstances.
• Humbly approach God, acknowledging your sins and shortcomings. As you reflect on the message today, recognize the areas in your life where you have fallen short. Ask for forgiveness for the times you have allowed sin to take root in your heart and communities. Pray that God will grant you the strength and courage to repent wholeheartedly, turning away from your sinful ways and seeking His forgiveness as you walk in the light of His truth and strive for holiness in all that you do.
