Making a Comeback

Through their bitter defeat at Ai, the Israelites learned their lesson. They repented and sought the Lord, and He gave them victory. Listen to Ptr. Jared Co this week as he reminds us that we too must learn from our mistakes and return to God and let Him turn defeat into victory.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
– Follow up from last week: In what way were you tempted to sin? How did it go?
– Revisit the previous chapter about the Israelites going against the Lord.

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
– Read the passage. After being defeated by Ai, how did God encourage the Israelites?
– What did the Lord command the Israelites to do as they battle with Ai again?
– How did the Israelites respond to God after winning the battle against Ai?
– What did you learn about restoration and reconciliation?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
– What happens after you go against the Lord? Walk us through the process (your thoughts and how you feel).
– What do you feel about going back to God?
– What does it mean for you that God desires for reconciliation and He wants us back?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
– As Joshua and the Israelites built an altar to remember and renew God’s covenant with them, what can you do to help you be reminded of God’s desire to have a relationship with you?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
– Thank the Lord for His initiatives to encourage us and to restore us to Him.
– Seek God’s forgiveness for the times when we go our own way without seeking the Lord and for getting all the credit instead of bringing them to God.
– Pray for a renewed heart that worships the Lord whether in victory or in defeat; and a heart that returns to God knowing it is His desire to be with us.
