Courage to Do the Right Thing
Moments that demand courage reveal the strength of our character, helping us to choose what’s right even when it’s hard. This Sunday, Ptr. Jared Co examines how King Herod fared as he wrestled with the decision to behead John the Baptist.

Life Group Discussion Guide
1. Start with a prayer
2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
– Share a time when you hesitated to do the right thing because of fear. What happened? What were you afraid of losing?
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
– Read the passage. What made John the Baptist stand out in Herod’s eyes?
– How does the courage of Jesus surpass even John the Baptist’s? What makes His courage personal for us?
4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
– What areas in your life do you keep going back to listen to the truth, but still struggle to obey?
– How do you react when someone lovingly confronts you with the truth? Defensive? Grateful? Convicted? Where is this rooted?
5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
– What fear has the most control over your decisions right now (e.g., fear of rejection, failure, discomfort)? What one “hard but right” thing is God calling you to do this week?
– Who in your life needs to see godly courage in you? How will you show it to them?
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
– Praise the Lord Jesus for His unwavering courage in the face of fear and death. Thank Him for not backing down, even when it cost Him His life. Rejoice that His brave love was not just an example for us, but a sacrifice for us—so that we might be set free from fear and become bold witnesses of His truth. Give thanks that His Spirit now empowers us to walk in the same courage that raised Christ from the grave.
– Repent for the times you have allowed fear to silence your witness or compromise your convictions. Ask forgiveness for the ways you’ve chosen comfort, status, or approval over obedience to God. Confess the false centers of your life that have kept you from standing firm. Pray that God would soften your heart, realign it to His, and fill you with the courage that comes from knowing you are fully loved and secure in Christ.
