A Genocidal God: Where was God’s Justice in Light of the Conquest?

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
– Share a time when your decision affected somebody or when someone’s decision affected you.

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
– Read the passage. What did Joshua and the elders fail to do? How did they respond when they were defeated?
– What sin did Achan commit? What are the consequences of his sins?
– What do you think about having the whole assembly suffer the consequences of Achan’s sin?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
– In what way do you resonate with Joshua?
– In what way do you resonate with Achan?
– What is your attitude when your sin is made known to you (through a devotion, through a friend, etc.)? Share an experience. How could you respond better?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
– What are some truths that you need to remember when you are tempted to sin? Write these down.

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
– Spend a few minutes in silence. Pray individually and ask God to reveal any hidden sins in our heart.
– Pray as a group. Seek the Lord to have a heart that accepts correction from Him, to honestly bring our sins to God and ask for God’s forgiveness, and to respond in obedience as God reveals our sins and His love and mercy toward us.
