Life Group Discussion Guide
1. Start with a prayer
2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
- What makes you trust someone? Share an experience when someone’s words or actions strengthened and/or weakened your trust in them.
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
- Read the psalm. What is the difference between being truthful and being trustworthy? How can you use truthful words in ways that still hurt others, such as through gossip or flattery?
- What does it mean to be a person of consistency rather than convenience? How should consistency be reflected in values, promises, and decisions (e.g., use of money)?
4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)
- Are you the same person in every room—in church, at work or school, at home, and with your friends? Where do you notice inconsistencies in your words, values, or behavior?
- When you speak about others, what usually motivates you: love and a desire to build them up, or the desire to gain attention, fit in, or make yourself look better?
5. Empower the hands (15-20 mins)
- In what areas of your life are you most tempted to compromise your integrity when doing what is right becomes inconvenient or costly? What is one specific situation this week in which you can choose integrity over convenience, even considering the costs?
- What change can you make in the way you handle your finances so that your money reflects your commitment to God rather than serving your own desires?
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
- Praise God for His holiness and perfect integrity, and thank Him for sending Jesus Christ to live the perfect integrity we could never achieve on our own. Rejoice that through Christ, we receive His righteousness and the Holy Spirit who transforms us to become more like Him. Thank God that we can stand secure in His grace as we grow in integrity.
- Repent for the times you have compromised your integrity by choosing convenience over consistency, using your words to hurt others, breaking promises, or allowing money and personal desires to take priority over God. Ask for forgiveness for the areas of your heart you have withheld from Him. Pray that you may rely on Christ’s righteousness and the Holy Spirit’s power to become trustworthy, consistent, and wholehearted in following the Lord.
