The Sound of Silence

In a world deafened by sin, Jesus touches us with the same healing hands that opened ears in the Gospels. This Sunday, Pastor Renz Raquion reminds us to listen for Christ’s voice so we can break the silence of sin and speak His hope to those who desperately need to hear it.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
– Share a time when silence felt either very comforting or very painful. What made it that way?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
– Read the passage. What does Jesus’ method of healing in this passage tell you about His character and mission?
– How does this miracle connect to the broader narrative of creation, fall, and new creation in Scripture (e.g., Genesis 2, Isaiah 35, Romans 8)?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
– How does Jesus’ hands-on approach to healing challenge your view of how God works in your life today? Where do you need His “”scandalous grace””?
– How do you balance present suffering with future hope? What helps you remember that current struggles are not the end of the story?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
– Where in your life have you grown used to “spiritual deafness” (areas where you no longer expect to hear from God) or are experiencing “noise” that drowns out God’s voice? What practical change can you make this week to create space for spiritual listening, especially in a noisy or busy environment?
– Where might God be asking you to step into someone else’s “silence” or isolation with grace and presence?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
– Praise Jesus, the Creator and Healer, whose intimate and powerful touch opens what has been closed and speaks life into what has been silent. Thank Him for not keeping His distance from your mess, but for drawing near in grace. Celebrate the truth that even in a world full of noise, Jesus’ voice still breaks through and brings healing, clarity, and hope. Rejoice that the day is coming when every tongue will sing and every silence will be filled with His glory.
– Repent for the times you have ignored or drowned out God’s voice—choosing noise, distraction, or self-reliance over communion with Him. Confess the ways you’ve grown used to living in spiritual isolation, going through the motions while disconnected from His presence. Ask for forgiveness for resisting His intimate touch because of fear, shame, or pride. Pray that you may be made willing to listen, to receive His healing, and to speak His hope to others.
