The Crucifixion: They Saw But Did They Believe?

Recounting the story of the cross does not guarantee salvation, for even those who witnessed Jesus’ crucifixion were not instantly saved. This Sunday, Pastor Nathan Tee reminds us that salvation comes not by knowing, but by faith and believing what Christ has accomplished.

Life Group Discussion Guide
1. Start with a prayer
2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
- Share a time a belief of yours was tested, making you realize that you didn’t really believe or trust it that deeply. What happened after this realization?
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
- Read the passage. How does the Cross reveal Jesus as both Judge and Justifier of our sin and blindness?
- Why can’t human effort, religion, or knowledge alone bring someone to God?
4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)
- What forms of unbelief or unrepentance might still be keeping you from fully surrendering to Jesus?
- What areas in your life are you still relying more on your own effort, goodness, knowledge, or spirituality rather than fully trusting Christ’s finished work?
5. Empower the hands (15-20 mins)
- In what ways have you become too familiar with the story of the Cross without allowing it to deeply transform your life? What practical step can you take to remember, reflect, and embrace Christ’s finished work?
- How can you intentionally grow in faith and dependence on Jesus instead of merely consuming more Christian content or information?
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
- Praise the Heavenly Father for opening our eyes through faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the Cross. Thank Him that salvation is not based on our own effort, goodness, or religious performance, but entirely on Christ’s sacrifice and grace. Rejoice that through Jesus, we are made right with God and invited to truly see and know Him. Give thanks that eternal life begins through believing in Christ, who lovingly endured the Cross so that we may have hope, forgiveness, and access to God.
- Repent for the times you have treated the message of the Cross as something familiar without allowing it to transform your heart and life. Ask for forgiveness for relying on your own strength, knowledge, righteousness, or religious efforts instead of fully trusting in Christ’s finished work. Confess the areas of unbelief, pride, and self-reliance that keep you from surrendering completely to Jesus. Pray that the Lord would soften your heart, deepen your faith, and help you live daily in humble dependence on Him.
