教會 – 我們屬靈的家 Church – Our Spiritual Home

教會最寶貴的地方不是它的建築或設備,而是裡面的人-是我們. 這個週末, 張國強牧師用詩篇122來提醒我們教會帶來的祝福以及我們保持教會的合一的責任.

The church is defined not by its architecture nor its ministries but rather by the people who are part of its spiritual family. This weekend, Rev. Jeremiah Cheung uses Psalm 122 to remind us of the many blessings the church has received and our responsibility to uphold the unity of God’s family.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
• Share about a time when you felt particularly connected to the church as your spiritual home and family. What aspects of that experience made it meaningful to you? How does being in the presence of fellow believers in the church impact your sense of joy and belonging?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• Read the passage. What parallels can you draw between the joy of the Israelites going to Jerusalem and the joy believers experience in gathering in church today?
• Share your understanding of what peace is. How does this align with shalom, especially within the context of the church?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• Be honest: How do you personally contribute to fostering unity within your church community? Identify areas where God is leading you to pursue purity and unity more. (Note to leaders: Allow your group to really think through their thoughts, words, and actions. Unity can be impacted by gossiping in the guise of prayer requests, pride and unwillingness to be corrected, unforgiveness, hypocrisy, self-righteousness, etc.)
• Examine yourself: How does your love for the church manifest in your actions and attitudes? Are they evident to both believers and non-believers?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• Reflect on the significance of God’s Word, sacraments, and discipline within the church. How can you personally engage more deeply with these elements in your own spiritual journey?
• What practical steps can you take to cultivate a deeper sense of joy and love for the church in your everyday life?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Thank the Heavenly Father for the gift of our spiritual home, the church, where we find refuge, fellowship, and the presence of His Spirit. Praise Him for the unity and beauty we experience when we gather as believers, transcending our differences and coming together in worship.
• Humbly come before the Lord acknowledging your shortcomings and failures. Ask for forgiveness for the times when you have allowed divisions, pride, or selfishness to disrupt the unity of His church. Repent of any attitudes or actions that have hindered the peace and love that should characterize His Body. Pray that God may grant you the humility to seek reconciliation where there is discord and the courage to pursue peace even in the face of difficulties. Ask God to help you turn away from anything that hinders your relationship with Him and with fellow believers.
