The Tale of Two Banquets

Let us be humble and ask for God’s insight to guide our daily lives. This week, Ptr. Renz Raquion shows us how two banquets illustrate the wisdom and the folly of two contrasting characters in Esther Chapter 5.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
Recall and share a time when you made a request to someone. How did you do it and what were the things that you took into consideration?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
Read the passage. What was Queen Esther’s strategy in making a request to King Xerxes?
What do you think about her strategy? Is there anything that you want to emulate?
Describe Haman. What are your thoughts about his actions?
Where do you see God’s hands in this passage?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
What are some of the decisions you are facing right now? How are you bringing them to God?
How is God speaking to you in this situation?
(Note to leaders: Be sensitive as some might share about being helpless and hopeless. This is an opportunity to minister to their heart. Listen, give them time, and be comfortable with silences. Refrain from giving band-aid solutions.)

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
As God speaks to you, what steps should you take towards a Christ-centered decision?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
Praise God for His infinite wisdom and for providing us with what we need in each situation. Thank God for His interventions in situations that seem to be hopeless.
Repent of times when we forget to surrender to God’s leading and for the times when we are too passive and not sensitive to the Spirit.
Pray for continued reliance on God’s wisdom and obedience to the Spirit.
