a. To repent, we must recognize the sin. After David sinned, in what way did he show that he recognized his sin? How do you recognize your sin? What hinders you from recognizing your sin? Only the blood of Jesus can cleanse us. How can we look at sin using God’s perspective?

b. To repent, we must acknowledge the sin. Read 2Sam.12:13. aAfter David sinned, how did he acknowledge his sin? Do we acknowledge our sin as David did? What excuses do we tend to have when we sin?

c. To repent, we must grieve the sin. After David sinned, how did he grieve his sin? Read Gen.1:27; Ps.8:4-5; Ps.51:1,10-11, how do these speak of God and man? What are the 2 areas of focus of repentance? Has there been a time when you focused on punishment? How can we help each other to focus on God? Reflect: Do you see God’s love? How does focusing on God’s love bring true repentance?

d. To repent, we must hate sin. After David sinned, how did he show hatred for sin? Do we hate sin the way David did? Read Luke 15:11-32, how did the prodigal son respond to the father’s love?

4. Is there a sin you need to repent? What is your motivation to repent? Where does our power to change come from?
