God at the Center | Draw Near to God

Every day brings a whirlwind of fears, worries, and distractions that can easily sweep us off our feet. This week, Ptr. Jared Co uses Psalm 16 to remind us that, when we have God at our center, we have security, fullness, and joy whatever our circumstances.

Discussion Questions

Use these questions to guide your life group discussions or personal reflections.

1. What is your greatest possession? Why do you consider it your greatest possession?

2. Read vv.1-2. Why should God be our center? What is David saying in these verses? Why is there no safe place other than in God? Is there any aspect of your life that you need to put God at the center of?

3. Read vv.3-8. How can God be our center?

a. Relating with people (vv.3-4). How can having God at the center change how we relate with people? How have you experienced this? Reflect: What kind of people am I drawn to? (The things about the people I am drawn to will show how God is at my center.)

b. Relating with circumstances (vv.5-6). What does ‘the Lord is my chosen portion’ mean? How are you struggling in choosing God as your portion?

c. Relating with our direction in life (vv.7-8). Are there decisions you’ve made before that you now see as foolish? What is your attitude when someone gives you advice? What is David’s attitude in seeking the Lord? How does having God at our center affect our direction in life?

4. Read vv.9-11. What happens if God is our center? How does David respond when God is at the center? In this passage, what can we learn from the relationship that David and God have? How does this passage point us to Christ (refer to Acts 13:35-37) and to the hope and joy that we can experience in the presence of God?
