摔跤歸家路 Wrestling Our Way Back Home

摔跤歸家路 Wrestling Our Way Back Home

基督徒家庭的和解,始於艱難的對話——與自己、與我們曾傷害的人、與上帝。本週日,Pastor Isaac Cheung 挑戰我們在關係中謙卑自己,深刻認識我們身為罪人的身分。

True reconciliation within Christian families begins not with easy forgiveness, but with a willingness to engage in hard conversations with ourselves, with those we have wronged, and with God. This Sunday, Ptr. Isaac Cheung challenges us to humble ourselves in our relationships by reckoning with our identity as sinners.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)

  • When there’s conflict in your family, what is your usual first instinct (confront it, avoid it, keep quiet, make peace, or something else)? Where do you think this is rooted?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)

  • Read the chapters. What are the three areas Jacob had to wrestle with? Why are all three necessary?
  • Why does reconciliation require more than simply saying “sorry” or resolving the immediate conflict?

4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)

  • Who is someone in your family whom you have reduced to their mistakes, hurts, or past actions instead of seeing them as someone made in the image of God?
  • What things do you need to take ownership of in your family relationships (whether it’s something you have done, failed to do, said, or left unresolved)?

5. Empower the hands (15-20 mins)

  • Where might God be convicting you to go back home—to initiate a conversation, seek forgiveness, extend forgiveness, or address something that has been left unresolved? What is one specific step you can take this week toward reconciliation with a family member?
  • What is one pattern of dysfunction in your family that you can choose to stop contributing to, even if you cannot change how others respond?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)

  • Praise God that He is a God who pursues us even in the midst of our sin, brokenness, and family dysfunction. Thank Him that through Jesus Christ, reconciliation with Him is possible and that He gives us the faith and grace to pursue peace and reconciliation with our loved ones. Thank Him that our families do not have to be perfect for God to work in them, and that He can transform even broken relationships for His glory.
  • Ask God to give you and your family the humility to wrestle honestly with yourselves before Him. Repent of the ways you have contributed to conflict through pride, control, resentment, favoritism, selfishness, harsh words, avoidance, unforgiveness, or unwillingness to take responsibility. Ask God to transform your hearts, help you surrender control, and give you courage to take the first step toward confession, forgiveness, and reconciliation.
