Life Group Discussion Guide
1. Start with a prayer
2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
- Share your greatest hope or concern for the next generation (kids, younger people in the family/church/community).
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
- Read the passage. Why does human work, building, or labor become in vain without the Lord?
- Why is passing down the faith to the next generation closely connected to the mission and heart of God?
4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)
- In what areas of your life do you tend to work and strive without fully depending on God’s presence? Where is this rooted?
- What fears or frustrations do you have about the gap between the present generation and the next? How might God be inviting you to respond differently?
5. Empower the hands (15-20 mins)
- What habits or investments in your life need to change so that your labor will have eternal and lasting value?
- How do you personally view the next generation? Do you see them as distractions, responsibilities, blessings, or instruments from God? How can you intentionally pass on your faith to someone younger than you—whether through prayer, mentoring, conversations, or example?
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
- Praise the Heavenly Father because His work in our lives is never in vain when He is at the center. Thank Him for being our true source of security, peace, and purpose, even when the world teaches us to rely on our own strength and achievements. Thank Him for the gift of families, children, and the next generation whom He has entrusted to us as a heritage, blessing, and instrument for His glory. Rejoice that God continues to work even while we rest, and that His plans will continue from generation to generation as His faithfulness endures forever.
- Repent for the times you have labored, worried, and built your life apart from God’s presence and direction. Ask for forgiveness for placing your security in temporary things instead of trusting the Lord completely. Repent for the moments you have neglected, underestimated, or failed to intentionally invest in the next generation spiritually. Pray that God would soften your heart to see children, youth, and younger believers through His eyes, and ask Him to help you faithfully pass on the faith through your words, example, love, and obedience.
