作僕人或是作明星 Servant or Celebrity

我們使用恩賜的目的是什麼?是為了造就他人還是尋求認可?本週,張國強牧師鼓勵我們在運用恩賜時省察自己的態度。我們在教會裡是扮演僕人還是想成為明星?

Why do we use our spiritual gifts? Is it to build others up or to seek recognition? This week, Rev. Jeremiah Cheung encourages us to examine our attitudes when we use our spiritual gifts—are we acting as servants or trying to become celebrities in the church?

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
• Share which spiritual gift you admire the most and why.

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• Read the passage and look back on the previous chapters. Why does Paul spend so much time addressing spiritual gifts?
• How does Paul illustrate the potential chaos that can arise from misusing the gift of tongues? What can this look like in today’s context?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• How do you feel when others do not notice your service and sacrifice in the church? Does this affect your motivation and willingness to serve?
• In what ways have you prioritized your personal edification over the edification of the church community?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• How can you use your spiritual gifts to build up others in the church (being a servant) rather than seek personal recognition (being a superstar)?
• How can you be more intentional in your actions to ensure that both believers and unbelievers are encouraged, strengthened, and pointed toward Christ through your words and deeds?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Praise God for the diversity of spiritual gifts He has bestowed upon His church, each with its unique purpose to build up the body of Christ. Thank the Lord for the gift of prophecy, which strengthens, encourages, and comforts believers, and for the gift of tongues, which deepens personal communion with Him. Rejoice that God calls us to prioritize love and edification in all we do, reminding us that our gifts are meant to glorify Him and serve others.
• Repent for the times you have used your spiritual gifts with self-centered motives, seeking recognition or approval from others rather than aiming to edify the church. Ask for forgiveness for the moments when your heart has been more focused on applause than on serving God and His people. Pray for the grace to realign your motives, so that your gifts and service are offered in humility and love, always seeking to build up the body of Christ for His glory.
