Lessons from the Fig Tree
Jesus cursed and withered a fig tree because it was fruitless. Do we not deserve a similar fate when we fail to bear fruit for God’s kingdom? This Sunday, Pastor Nathan Tee reminds us that it is God’s will for us to bear fruit for Him. Let us persevere in serving Him for His grace is present and His promise remains steadfast through faith.

Life Group Discussion Guide
1. Start with a prayer
2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
– Share a time you realized that something in your life looked “good” on the outside but was lacking depth on the inside. What made you realize it? What happened after the realization?
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
– Read the passage. Why does Jesus’ action toward the fig tree represent a “live parable” rather than an emotional reaction?
– How does Jesus’ cleansing of the temple reveal both grace and truth at the same time?
4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
– In what ways might your spiritual life look healthy on the outside but lack true fruit on the inside? Where is this rooted?
– How would you describe your prayer life right now (e.g., confident, hesitant, routine, faith-filled)? What does your prayer life reveal about the depth of your faith and dependence on God?
5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
– What spiritual fruit does God want to grow in your life right now (e.g., patience, obedience, humility, self-control)?
– How can you allow Jesus to “cleanse your temple” so your life becomes more of a house of prayer than a place of compromise?
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
– Praise the Heavenly Father for being a God who is full of both grace and truth. Thank Him for loving you enough to confront fruitlessness and restore you through His presence. Express gratitude that He does not abandon His people in their brokenness but willingly enters their lives to cleanse, redeem, and fill them with His glory. Rejoice that His grace is not earned but freely given, shaping you into a true house of prayer.
– Repent for the times you have relied on outward appearances instead of bearing true spiritual fruit. Ask for forgiveness for treating your relationship with God casually, allowing compromise, self-interest, or routine to replace sincere worship. Confess the ways your prayers have been driven more by personal desires than by God’s will. Ask the Lord to realign your heart, cleanse your life, and deepen your faith so you may live as a true dwelling place of His presence.
