The Most Important Question

“Who do you say I am?” Jesus asked His disciples. Today, our Savior poses that same question to us. This week, Ptr. Jared Co encourages us to seek the answer to this timeless question so we can deepen our knowledge of and relationship with our Savior.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
– Who was the first person who introduced you to who Jesus is? What did they say about Him?
– If Jesus asked you today, “Who do you say that I am?”—what would your honest answer be?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
– Read the passage. What did the people say about Jesus? Why were their answers inadequate?
– What did Peter declare about Jesus? Why was this confession significant?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
– Have you been treating Jesus more as a teacher you can admire or control, rather than as Savior and Lord who has claim over your life? Where is this rooted?
– Do you see your life more oriented toward success and power, or toward sacrifice and service like Christ? What encourages and hinders you from living for Christ?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
– What does your current prayer life reveal about how personal your relationship with Jesus is? How will you devote yourself to private prayer this week to deepen your personal relationship with Jesus?
– Who in your circle of influence (family, friends, work/school, hobbies) can you gently challenge with the question, “Who do you say Jesus is?”

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
– Praise God because Jesus is far greater than we could ever imagine. Thank Him for revealing Himself not just as a great teacher or prophet, but as our Lord, Savior, and King who builds His throne by laying down His own life for us. Rejoice that His greatness does not crush us, but transforms us, giving us life that is truly life.
– Repent for the times you have given inadequate or shallow answers about who Jesus is—treating Him as only a helper, teacher, or part of our religion rather than surrendering to Him as Lord and King. Ask for forgiveness for holding on to control, seeking success over sacrifice, or power over service. Pray for strength and discipline to devote yourself to prayer and to the cross, so that your life may reflect the greatness of Christ.
