成續考核 Performance Appraisal

Despite witnessing the wondrous miracles of Jesus, the disciples failed to understand the identity and authority of Jesus as the Son of God. This Sunday, Rev. Jeremiah Cheung shows how God uses trials as ‘performance appraisals’ to reveal what’s in our hearts and deepen our knowledge of Christ, challenging us to go beyond surface-level faith to a genuine understanding and trust in our Savior.

Life Group Discussion Guide
1. Start with a prayer
2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
• Share an experience when you misunderstood what God was doing. How did you eventually see His purpose in it?
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• Read the passage. Why do you think Jesus “intended to pass by them” instead of immediately calming the storm or joining the boat (v.48)?
• What do we learn about Jesus’ character through His actions in this passage—praying, watching, walking, and saving?
4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• In your spiritual life, what area do you feel strongest in right now (e.g., prayer, trust, obedience, study of the Word, service)? Which area is weakest? Why do you think that is?
• When have you struggled to recognize Jesus because He didn’t show up the way you expected? How did that affect your faith and view of God?
5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• What’s one concrete step you can take this week to know Jesus more? What habit or rhythm can you start (or restart) that will help soften your heart and grow in the knowledge of Jesus?
• How can you help someone else who’s struggling with a “hard heart” or misunderstanding of Jesus’ character? What truth can you gently remind them of?
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Praise Jesus for being our faithful Intercessor, ever-watchful Savior, and present “I AM.” Thank Him that even when our hearts are slow to understand or believe, He patiently reveals Himself through prayer, power, and presence. Rejoice in the truth that Jesus is both near and mighty, calming the storms and guiding us to the shore.
• Repent for the ways you’ve been content with shallow knowledge of Jesus or have doubted His presence when things got hard. Confess your tendency to evaluate God’s love by your circumstances rather than His cross. Ask for forgiveness for the hardness in your heart and pray for the grace to persevere in knowing Jesus more deeply and trusting Him more fully.
