1. Start with a prayer
2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
– Share a time a passage in the Bible suddenly made sense when it was initially confusing or difficult for you when you first encountered it. What helped you understand it?
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
– Read the passage. According to the parable of the lamp (vv.21-23), what is the purpose of God’s Truth being revealed? How does it relate to Jesus being the Light?
– What principle does Jesus teach in the parable of the measure (vv.24-25)? How does it connect to how we pursue God’s Truth?
4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
– Are you approaching God’s Truth with a desire to understand and obey, or do you find yourself passive or selective in what you want to receive? Why?
– What areas in your life have you been hiding the Light rather than putting it on a stand for others to see? What encourages and hinders you from doing so?
5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
– What specific steps can you take to grow in your spiritual hunger and pursue a deeper understanding of God’s Truth this week?
– Who is someone in your life (home, work/school, community) that needs the True Light? How will you reach out or pray for them this week?
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
– Praise the Lord for revealing His Truth through Jesus Christ, the Light of the world. Thank Him that the mystery of the kingdom is no longer hidden to those who seek Him with humble hearts. Rejoice that God desires to be known and has made His Truth available to those who truly listen and respond.
– Repent for the times you have treated God’s Word lightly or ignored His Truth even after He revealed it to you. Ask forgiveness for letting distractions, pride, or indifference keep you from seeking more of Him. Pray for a heart that listens intently, pursues earnestly, and applies faithfully what God has shown.
