Life Group Discussion Guide
1. Start with a prayer
2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
• Share about a time when you worked really hard at something but didn’t see the results you hoped for. How did you feel and what did you learn?
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• Read the passage. What are the four kinds of hearts Jesus described in the parable of the sower? How does each type of heart respond differently to God’s word?
• What factors influence each type of soil’s (heart) reception of the seed (God’s word)?
4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• What has God’s word recently revealed about the condition of your heart?
• How much effort do you put into truly listening to Jesus—not just hearing, but meditating and reflecting on His Word?
5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• In what areas of your life do you struggle to let God’s word sink deep and stay long enough to grow? What is one practice you can begin this week to help God’s word go deeper into your heart?
• How can you cultivate patience as God works slowly and gradually in your life?
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Praise the Heavenly Father for the living and active word that He sows into our hearts with the power to completely transform our lives. Thank Him that He patiently works in us, even when we are slow to grow, and that He is faithful to bear beautiful and lasting fruit in our lives as we trust in Him.
• Repent before the Lord for the times you have allowed His Word to stay only on the surface of your life—for when you listened lightly, impatiently, or allowed other things to choke out His truth. Ask for forgiveness and pray that you may learn to listen deeply, patiently, and faithfully to Jesus, that His word may bear much fruit in your life.
