更美的犧牲 The Better Sacrifice

The story of Cain and Abel is the earliest biblical account of making sacrifices to God, in which God accepted Abel’s offering and rejected Cain’s. This Anniversary Sunday, Rev. Jeremiah Cheung will lead us to reflect on why Abel’s offering pleased God and how we, as a church, can follow his example.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
• Identify someone whose faith and sacrifice have influenced your walk with God? How did they impact you?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• How does faith make a sacrifice better in God’s eyes? Identify at least 3 passages in the Bible that help you better understand this.
• How does knowing about Abel’s sacrifice impact your life? What does this teach us about the long-term effects of a life lived in faith?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• In what ways does your life reflect the value you place on God? Do you give Him your best at all times, or only what is convenient or left over?
• Examine yourself: What kind of spiritual legacy are you building? If people looked at your life, would they see a testimony of faith that inspires others to follow Christ?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• What is one step of faith you can take this week to offer a better sacrifice to God—whether in your time, resources, or service?
• How can you encourage and support someone in your church or community who is making sacrifices for the next generation?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Praise the Heavenly Father for His abundant grace that has sustained our church for 38 years. Thank Him for the faith of those who have gone before us, making sacrifices so that we could grow and mature as disciples. Express gratitude for His guidance, provision, and faithfulness in leading us every step of the way. Rejoice that He alone is worthy of our best offerings, and that He continues to work through His people to impact generations for His glory.
• Repent for the times you have offered God less than your best—when you have served without faith, given without joy, or relied on your own strength instead of trusting in Him. Ask for forgiveness for valuing other things above Him and for moments of complacency in your walk with Christ. Pray that God would align your heart to His, teaching you to live a life of faith and surrender so that your sacrifices would be pleasing in His sight and leave a lasting testimony for generations to come.
