Use Your Freedom for the Glory of God

As believers, our freedom in Christ comes with responsibilities. This week, Rev. Mike Cariño urges us to not misuse our Christ-given freedom for selfish purposes. Instead, let us bring glory to God and help others know His liberating presence.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
– Who is someone you admire for living like Christ in their daily life? What specific actions or behaviors do they exhibit that you find inspiring?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
– Read the passage. What is the main principle that needs to govern all of our actions, including in grey areas?
– Does v.33 mean that Paul is just a people-pleaser? What is this verse teaching us?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
– How do you perceive your personal freedom in Christ? Do you find yourself prioritizing your own rights over the well-being of others?
– Reflect on a time you did something that, although seemingly harmless to you, might have led others into sin or confusion. How did that experience affect your understanding of Christian freedom?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
– What practical steps can you take to ensure you are not engaging in behaviors that could be considered idolatrous or harmful to your relationship with Christ?
– What areas of your life do you feel need more alignment with Christ’s example? Create a plan to work on these areas, seeking accountability from your Life Group, family, friends, and other trusted circles.

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
– Praise the Heavenly Father for the freedom we have in Christ and the opportunity to glorify Him through our actions. Thank Him for the examples and teachings in His Word that guide us to use our freedom responsibly, to build others up, and to bring sinners to salvation. Express your gratitude for His steadfast love and for calling us to live like Christ, putting others before ourselves.
– Repent for the times you have prioritized your own rights and freedoms over the well-being of others and His glory. Ask for forgiveness for any participation in behaviors that may have led others astray or failed to reflect Christ’s love. Ask God that He may help you break any evil behavior, to be considerate of others, and to live in a way that draws people to Him.
