Live as You are Called: God’s Grace in Where We Are

People make a fuss about one’s marital status; some singles are stressed about getting married, while some married couples regret tying the knot. This week, Ptr. Isaac Cheung reminds us that God has called us to live in accordance with His perfect will regardless of our life stage and relationship status.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
– Share a time you felt the pressure to meet the standards of others, of society, or the trappings of culture. What made you compelled to succumb to that pressure? What helped you overcome it?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
– Read the passage. What is our bodies’ role in worship? (vv.10-16) How does this look like in your current context?
– How can a Christian be both free and a slave? (v.22) How are you experiencing this biblical tension in your life?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
– Examine yourself: Have you ever felt like you were any less loved, cherished, worthy, or favored by God and others because of your marital status or current relationships? What can help you root your identity in your unchanging standing with the Heavenly Father?
– Reflect on your own attitudes and actions toward your body and relationships. Do these align with what the Bible teaches? Identify what influences your current perspective and practices.

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
– What practical steps can you take to offer your body as an instrument of worship in your daily life and relationships?
– Identify ways you can pursue Christian perfection where you are, regardless of and in the context of your marital status. What steps will you take this week to live out your calling?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
– Praise God for His divine design of marriage as a covenant before Him. Express your gratitude for His guidance and the gift of reconciliation that He offers in Christ. Thank Him for the grace and mercy He extends, enabling us to live in harmonious relationships, even when challenges arise.
– Approach the Lord with repentance for the times you have allowed your heart to become hardened, leading you to consider or pursue divorce lightly. Ask for forgiveness for not honoring the covenant of marriage as He intended. Ask for help to seek reconciliation and to uphold His principles in your relationships. Pray for guidance and discernment to live in peace and to fulfill the mission He has given you, keeping your identity firmly rooted in Christ.
