Time to Grow Up
Our growth as a church is hindered when we allow jealousy, envy, and quarrels to pollute our interpersonal relationships. This week, Rev. Genesis Tan urges us to change our perspectives, passions, and pursuits as we seek to grow together in Christ.

Life Group Discussion Guide
1. Start with a prayer
2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
– Share an aspect in your life where you’ve seen growth. What contributed to that change? Were you aware that you were growing? Did you welcome it or tried to stop it?
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
– Read the passage. How do you see the Corinthian problem of seeming perpetual spiritual immaturity/worldliness often repeated in today’s churches?
– Give further situations and examples (both subtle and obvious) wherein the worldly behavior of the Corinthians (envy, jealousy, quarreling, division) can be observed in Christians today.
4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
– How do the internal and external factors contributing to division in the Corinthian church affect you personally in the various aspects of your life (relational, emotional, physical, and spiritual)?
– Do you agree that a shift in one’s perspective, passion, and pursuit can lead to a more mature and Christ-centered life? Why or why not? If you disagree, what do you think is hindering you from believing so?
5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
– Identify an area in your life where you need a change in perspective. How can you actively shift your focus from worldly concerns to a more God-centered perspective?
– Evaluate your passions in life. Are they aligned with God’s love and purpose? How can you allow God’s transformative love to impact your heart and change your passions?
– Reflect on your pursuits and commitments. In what ways can you adjust your priorities to better align with serving the Lord out of gratitude for His love? What specific steps can you take to grow up spiritually and surrender any envy or jealousy to Jesus?
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
– Thank the Heavenly Father for the gift of the Holy Spirit, Who dwells within us upon faith in Jesus Christ and brings about transformation in our lives. Praise Him for the discipline that He instills in you, enabling you to delay gratification and choose a path of spiritual maturity. Thank Him for His Word that nourishes our souls, guiding us from spiritual infancy to deeper truths. Express your gratitude for His abundant grace and the opportunity to grow in His love.
– Humbly acknowledge the areas in your life where you have allowed envy and jealousy to take root. Repent for the times when you have been threatened or fearful of losing to others, neglecting the love and gratitude God has poured into your heart. Ask for forgiveness for any bitterness or unspiritual attitudes that have affected your relationships and actions. Surrender these feelings to Him and ask for His transformative power to change your perspective, passion, and pursuit.
