Our Church Building Expansion
The Father of Modern Missions, William Carey, once said “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.” These words inspire us immensely. But Psalm 131:1 reminds us, “My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me.”
These two seem contradictory at first glance. Are we called to courageously achieve great things or to live ordinary and quiet Christian lives? The construction of the church building is truly an immense task, we really dare not attempt it. So, what moved us to pursue it? With what power? The answer is God’s will.
We are not seeking to do great things for ourselves.
We are not out to gain glory. Having sought God humbly in prayer, we now bravely step out to fulfill God’s plan for his church. Two years ago, through God’s amazing provision, we were able to purchase this prime lot for a good price. Even the previous lot owner said, “God made [us] buy the lot so that [we] can give it to the church for its use.” God opened the first step for us. By faith, now we take the second step. We are doing this not for anyone, nor can we do this by our own strength. We do this to expand God’s kingdom for God.
Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations.”
Why are we constructing a new church building? We want to be more effective and equipped as we seek to fulfill the Lord’s commission. By His grace, we will build a disciple-making church that will see generations upon generations become disciples for the Lord. The new building is not only for our generation but also the next. The privilege to be part of building God’s temple is a blessing.
Not everyone can take part in building God’s temple. Even David, the man after God’s heart, did not have the opportunity. Today, God is giving us this opportunity. Do you want to be a part of building God’s sanctuary?
In his old age, Joshua told the Israelites, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Allow me to challenge you to pledge to the Lord, “As for me and my house, we will be part of the church expansion work. Whether it is to give manpower, materials, or financial resources, we will support wholeheartedly.”
