The Holy Spirit (1) — The Reason the Holy Spirit was Sent

There are two important truths about the Holy Trinity: first, the Triune God is the one and only God; second, the fellowship among the Holy Trinity is the basis for human relationships.

We had been made in the image of God, this is why we have love for one another, we are able to encourage one another, forgive each other, bear with one another, submit to one another.

This is where Christianity differs from other religions; ours is a personal relationship, no one Christian is a lone ranger.

Where did the Triune God come from? God the Father is eternally self-existent, the Son is eternally born of the Father (the Bible uses this word which indicates that the Son was born, not created), the Holy Spirit is sent from the Father and Son. The Son is born of the Father in eternity, while the Holy Spirit is sent by the Father and the Son.

Why was the Holy Spirit sent down to us? There are 5 important lessons, two of which we cover today:

1. The Holy Spirit came to Glorify Jesus Christ (John 16:13-14)

2. The Holy Spirit came to Enlighten Sinners, Help Sinful Men Repent (John 18:6)
