願為主名受辱嗎? Are You Willing to Suffer Disgrace for His Name?

願為主名受辱嗎? Are You Willing to Suffer Disgrace for His Name?

Peter’s three denials of Jesus during His trial before the Sanhedrin are widely known. Although this was Peter’s darkest moment, it later served as a significant turning point in his faith. This Sunday, Rev. Jeremiah Cheung draws on this story to ask what disgrace we are willing to endure for the sake of His Name.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)

  • Share a time you felt misunderstood or unfairly judged. How did you respond?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)

  • Read the passage. What are the three types of disciples mentioned during Jesus’ arrest, and how did each respond to the situation? How do we see these types of disciples today?
  • How did Jesus respond to false accusations and suffering during His trial?

4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)

  • Which type of disciple do you tend to relate to most (betraying, fleshly, or fearful/scattered), especially under pressure? Why?
  • How does fear or pressure cause you to “distance” yourself from Jesus? Where do you see this happening in specific areas of your life?

5. Empower the hands (15-20 mins)

  • Who is someone you can encourage or stand with this week who may be going through a difficult or unfair situation?
  • What is one step you can take to stand firm in your faith, even when it is uncomfortable or costly?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)

  • Praise the Lord Jesus for His willingness to suffer disgrace, injustice, and deep humiliation to accomplish our salvation. Thank Him for enduring betrayal, false accusations, and shame, yet remaining faithful and obedient to the Father. Rejoice that He understands our weaknesses and never forsakes us, even when we fail. Give thanks for His steadfast love that carried Him through the cross for our sake.
  • Repent for the times you have responded in the flesh, acted out of fear, or distanced yourself from Jesus when facing pressure or opposition. Ask for forgiveness for moments when you have failed to stand firm or have been ashamed to be identified with Him. Pray that you would grow in courage, faithfulness, and dependence on Christ, choosing to follow Him even when it leads to discomfort or suffering.
