Treachery Met with Fidelity

Instead of thwarting God’s plan of salvation, the betrayal of Jesus by one of His closest disciples fulfilled it. This Sunday, Pastor Isaac Cheung explains how human treachery only served to reveal the faithfulness and power of the Son of God.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)

  • Share how you usually respond when someone hurts or disappoints you. Does your response change when you expect it to happen?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)

  • Read the passage. What does Judas’s life and actions reveal about the nature and danger of sin?
  • How does Jesus reinterpret the Passover meal? What does it reveal about God’s plan of salvation?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)

  • In what ways might you be like Judas—externally following Jesus but internally driven by other desires?
  • Examine your daily rhythms: How do you remember and live in light of Jesus’ sacrifice (e.g., prayer, communion, serving others)? Are there ways that God is inviting you to integrate more into your day-to-day?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)

  • What sin or unhealthy pattern do you need to repent from today? What concrete step will you take to turn away from it?
  • Who is someone you can extend Christ-like love and faithfulness to this week, even if it’s difficult?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)

  • Praise the Heavenly Father for His unwavering faithfulness and steadfast love, even in the face of human betrayal. Thank Him for sending Christ Jesus, the Lamb of God, who willingly gave His body and shed His blood for your salvation. Rejoice that no sin or failure can overturn His perfect plan, and that His grace continually invites us into fellowship with Him.
  • Repent for the times you have chosen your own desires over Jesus, allowing sin to lead your heart away from Him. Ask for forgiveness for moments when you have taken His grace lightly or failed to remain faithful in your walk with Him. Pray that you would turn away from sin, guard your heart, and respond to Jesus’ love with wholehearted devotion and obedience.
