1. Start with a prayer
2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
- Share about a time you gave something valuable (time, money, effort, opportunity) to someone because they were important to you. What made you willing to give it?
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
- Read the passage. How does it contrast the woman’s devotion with the attitudes of the religious leaders and Judas?
- According to Jesus, why was the woman’s act considered a beautiful thing? What deeper meaning did it point to?
4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
- Which of the three heart conditions in this passage (power, money, love) do you find most tempting or influential in your life? Where is this rooted?
- Be honest: How much is Jesus truly worth in your heart? If someone observed your daily decisions (how you spend time, energy, and resources), what do you think they would say that fills your heart the most?
5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
- Is there something in your life that might be competing with Jesus for your wholehearted devotion or affection? Or, is there something valuable that God may be asking you to offer to Him? Identify what this may be and how you can begin to surrender it, starting this week.
- How can you intentionally cultivate a heart that loves Jesus more deeply so that your actions flow from love rather than from duty or pressure?
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
- Praise the Heavenly Father for filling our hearts with the love of Christ Jesus. Thank Him for revealing the beauty and worth of His Son, who gave His life for us on the cross. Rejoice that through Christ we are freed from the empty pursuits of power, wealth, and worldly gain, and that God invites us to live lives that honor Him. Thank Him for the opportunity to offer our lives as a beautiful expression of love and devotion to Him.
- Repent for the times your heart has been consumed by things other than Jesus—whether power, money, success, comfort, or recognition. Ask for forgiveness for allowing these desires to shape your decisions and priorities more than your love for Christ. Pray that God would transform your heart so that it may be filled with genuine love for Him, and that you may respond with timely obedience and wholehearted devotion.
