Life Group Discussion Guide
1. Start with a prayer
2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
– Share a time when you were surprised by someone’s kindness or help. What happened? How did that impact your relationship?
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
– Read the passage. Why do you think the disciples struggled to show compassion in this situation, even though they had seen a similar miracle before in Mark 6?
– What are the usual reasons we hear or give regarding why we’re hindered from Christian service? What does the passage reveal as the real hindrance?
4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
– When you think about serving others, what most often motivates you—duty, compassion, or something else? Where is this rooted?
– What fears, doubts, or self-limitations keep you from stepping into ministry opportunities God may be placing before you (in church, at work/school, with family/friends)?
5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
– Identify one under-served or undeserving person/group you can serve this week. What will you do?
– What “loaves and fish” (resources, abilities, time) can you intentionally surrender to God for Him to use?
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
– Praise the Heavenly Father for revealing Jesus as the compassionate Savior who sees every need and responds with abundant provision. Thank Him for not only saving us but also inviting us to join in His ministry. Rejoice that He can take whatever we surrender—no matter how small—and multiply it for His glory and the good of others.
– Repent for the times you have withheld service because you focused more on your own limitations than on God’s limitless power. Ask forgiveness for when fear, doubt, or self-centeredness kept you from loving and serving others as Christ does. Pray for a renewed heart that is compelled by His compassion, trusts His provision, and gladly gives everything back to Him.
