醒來吧! (1) Wake up (1)

Mark chapter 13 is well-known for Jesus’ prophecy about the End Times. While people have different interpretations about the Rapture and the Great Tribulation, these debates miss the key point. This Sunday, Rev. Jeremiah Cheung reminds us of what truly matters: the End Times will bring many difficulties and challenges. Above all else, we must remain watchful and alert.

Life Group Discussion Guide
1. Start with a prayer
2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
- How do you usually decide whether something is trustworthy (news, advice, or teaching)? What do you look for to confirm its validity?
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
- Read the passage. What specific warnings does Jesus give about deception and catastrophes (vv. 5-8)? Why does He emphasize that these are not yet the end? Identify passages that describe what the world will be like before the 7-year tribulation.
- What does the “abomination that causes desolation” represent in its historical and future fulfillment (vv. 14-23)? How does this demonstrate God’s sovereignty over history?
4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
- In what ways are you tempted to measure spiritual success by outward appearance (e.g., attendance, recognition, influence, or visible results) rather than genuine spiritual growth?
- What voices, teachings, or personalities are you easily drawn to? How would God want you to evaluate them biblically?
5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
- Are you spiritually alert, or have you grown complacent in your walk with God? Identify signs in your life that reveal your current level of spiritual watchfulness as well as the specific habits you can cultivate to strengthen your spiritual alertness (e.g., prayer, Scripture reading, accountability, discernment).
- How will you prepare yourself to respond with faith instead of fear when persecution or opposition arises in your community (family, friends, workplace/school, society)?
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
- Praise the Sovereign Lord who holds history in His hands and rules over past, present, and future. Thank Him that nothing happens outside of His authority—not persecution, not deception, not even the rise and fall of kingdoms. Rejoice that He does not warn us to frighten us, but to prepare and strengthen us. Give thanks that His Spirit remains with us, empowering us to stand firm, speak truth, and remain alert as we wait for the return of Christ.
- Repent for the times you have been more impressed with outward appearance than inward transformation. Ask for forgiveness for moments of spiritual complacency, distraction, and susceptibility to deception. Confess the ways you have allowed fear of rejection or persecution to silence your witness. Pray that the Lord would awaken your heart, sharpen your discernment, and teach you to live watchfully and faithfully in His presence as you wait for His return.
