Beyond This World

Beyond This World

How could the Sadducees have overlooked what the scriptures say about the resurrection when they were the religious leaders of their time? This Sunday, Rev. Jared Co urges us to place due importance on diligently knowing God’s Word so we can rely on God’s power to live righteously.

Life Group Discussion Guide

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
– Share a time you realized that you were limiting what God could do because it didn’t make sense to you at the time. How did that experience impact how you trusted God moving forward?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
– Read the passage. What were the major errors of the Sadducees in their understanding of resurrection?
– How does Jesus explain resurrection as something beyond human understanding and imagination?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
– Examine yourself: What shapes your expectations of God more right now (Scripture, past disappointments, or what feels reasonable and practical)? How does this view influence how you read and receive God and Scripture (approaching with trust vs. with conditions)?
– When Scripture challenges what feels comfortable, reasonable, or practical to you, how do you usually respond? In what ways might you be shrinking God’s power to fit the outcomes you desire and what your mind can understand or control?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
– How can you read Scripture this week with greater openness, allowing God’s Word to stretch you beyond comfort instead of shrinking it to fit your preferences?
– How can thinking more deeply about resurrection help you face current worries, fears, or uncertainties differently this week?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
– Praise the Heavenly Father that His power is far greater than what our minds can grasp, and His Word is faithful and true beyond what we can see. Thank Him for the resurrection of Jesus, which assures us that His promises did not fail and never will. Rejoice that through Christ’s resurrection, our hope is no longer uncertain but secure, and that His peace is available to us even now as we trust in His mighty power.
– Repent for the times you have reduced God’s power to what feels reasonable, manageable, or comfortable. Ask for forgiveness for the moments you have trimmed God’s Word to fit your preferences instead of allowing it to transform your thinking and faith. Confess the ways you have lived with a small view of God, leading to fear, anxiety, or doubt. Pray that you may have the humility and discipline to trust fully in the certainty of resurrection, to honor the fullness of Scripture, and to live with confidence in the power of God revealed through Jesus Christ.
