Become Like Little Children

Jesus welcomes those who are humble and seemingly unimportant, challenging the notion that God’s kingdom is reserved only for the prominent and influential. This Sunday, Rev. Jared Co explains the true nature of God’s kingdom and explains why we must become like little children to enter it.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
– When you were a child, what was something you asked or believed for without hesitation? How did that kind of faith or trust feel?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
– Read the passage. What does Jesus mean when He says we must “receive the kingdom of God like a little child” (v.15)? What qualities of children does this highlight?
– How does this passage reveal the upside-down nature of God’s kingdom compared to worldly values?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
– In what ways have you been trying to achieve rather than receive your relationship with God? Where is this rooted?
– How have guilt, shame, or fear made it difficult for you to boldly believe that you are loved and welcomed by God?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
– What specific area of your life do you need to surrender to God’s love—coming before Him both empty (in humility) and boldly (in trust)?
– How can you extend the same grace to others—treating them not by what they can do, but as those loved and valued by God?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
– Praise the Heavenly Father for His upside-down kingdom, where grace is freely given and love is not earned. Thank Him for inviting you to receive His kingdom as a child—empty-handed yet fully welcomed. Rejoice that through Jesus’ death and resurrection, you have received forgiveness, meaning, and eternal life as His precious gift.
– Repent for the times you have tried to achieve God’s approval through your own effort, rather than receiving His love through grace. Ask forgiveness for being prideful, self-sufficient, or doubtful of His generosity. Pray that God would teach you to come before Him empty of self and full of trust—boldly expecting His love and humbly receiving His kingdom each day.
