Aspects of Prayer

Prayer is a very vast topic. There are at least seven Greek words related to prayer, which can be translated into different meanings. Why are there so many different terms for prayer?

These words do not refer to different types of prayer, but to the different aspects of prayer.

1. Proseuchee – Prayer

2.  Eucharistia – Thanksgiving

3. Aiteema – Petition

4. Deesis – Request

5. Hiketeeria – Petitions, Cries

6. Euche – Wish, Vows

7. Proseuchomai Adialeipo – Pray Continuously
