我為何而死? What Am I Dying For?

年輕的時候,我們經常會問:「我為何而活?」但到了人生下半場,問題則變成了:「我為何而死?」本週,張國強牧師將探討這個問題如何引導我們超越物質世界,追尋生命的真正意義。

In our youth, we often ask ourselves, “What am I living for?” As we approach midlife, however, the more pressing question becomes, “What am I dying for?” This week, Rev. Jeremiah Cheung explores how this question encourages us to look beyond the material realm to seek the true meaning of life.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
• Share a time when you had to give up something significant in your life. What made you decide to let it go?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• Read the passage. How did Levi’s decision to follow Jesus impact those around him?
• How does Jesus’ response to the Pharisees challenge their view of righteousness?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• How do you view those who are considered “sinners” in society? Do you see yourself more like Levi or the Pharisees? Where is this rooted?
• Have you ever hesitated to share your faith with others? What encourages or hinders you from doing so?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• What are the things in your life that you find hard to leave behind in order to follow Jesus fully? Why? List practical steps you can take this week to prioritize Jesus over worldly security.
• How can you create opportunities to share your testimony and the Gospel with others through word and deed? Identify specific instances and people you can be an intentional witness to.

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Praise the Lord for calling sinners to Himself and offering a greater purpose through following Him. Thank Him for seeing us not as the world sees us, but as people worthy of redemption and transformation. Express gratitude that Jesus is a friend of sinners, always inviting us to sit at His table and take part in His kingdom work. Rejoice that through Him, we are no longer bound by our past but are given new life.
• Repent for the times you have held on to things that keep you from fully following Jesus. Ask for forgiveness for looking down on others while failing to recognize your own need for grace. Pray that you may see yourself rightly—as a sinner in need of a Savior—so that you may walk in humility and extend Christ’s love to others.
