1. Start with a prayer
2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
• In one word or phrase, share how you view Jesus. Why do you think this best encapsulates His identity? Where do you think this is rooted?
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• Read the passage. What do Jesus’ baptism and temptation reveal about His identity as the Son of God and Son of Man?
• What does Jesus’ preaching in Galilee teach us about the urgency and purpose of His ministry?
4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• In what ways have you struggled/are struggling with temptation? How does Jesus’ victory over Satan encourage you in your battles?
• How does the message of repentance and belief in the Gospel challenge your current mindset and attitudes?
5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• How can you imitate Jesus by obeying the Father and living in a way that reflects His Sonship?
• What practical steps can you take this week to stand firm against temptations and grow in spiritual maturity?
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Praise the Lord for sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to be our Savior, who bears our sins, overcomes temptation, and proclaims the Gospel of salvation. Thank God for tearing heaven open through Jesus, giving us access to Him, and for sending His Spirit to empower us to live for Him. Rejoice that Jesus has overcome every trial and will one day restore all creation under His reign.
• Repent for the times you have doubted Jesus’ victory over sin and temptation, failing to rely on His power to overcome. Confess the ways you have resisted the call to repent and believe the Gospel fully, holding on to worldly perspectives instead of seeking God’s kingdom. Ask for forgiveness for prioritizing yourself over pointing others to Jesus as the Savior of the world.
