• Think of someone similar to John in their message (simple lifestyle, humble life, honest witness). Share specific instances that left a mark on you.
3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• Read the passage. How do the Old Testament prophecies connect to John the Baptist’s ministry and the coming of Jesus as the Messiah?
• What are the key differences between John’s baptism and the baptism Jesus brings? Why are these differences important?
4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• How have you responded to God’s unchanging word in your own life? What areas have you become too casual in your faith?
• How is your lifestyle reflecting the message of repentance and reliance on the Holy Spirit?
5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• How can you use God’s blessings in your life to bless others this week?
• What specific steps can you take to align your lifestyle and attitude with John’s example of humility and simplicity?
6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Praise the Lord for His unchanging word that faithfully fulfills His promises throughout generations. Rejoice in His power to transform lives through the Holy Spirit, leading us into a new life in Christ.
• Repent for the times you have neglected God’s word or taken it lightly, allowing the distractions of the world to take priority. Ask for forgiveness for moments of pride or self-reliance in your witness, failing to point others honestly and humbly to Jesus. Pray that you may wholeheartedly embrace your mission to share Christ, trusting Him with the results.
