“家徒四壁”的困境 A Situation of Having Nothing

People who face the harsh reality of financial difficulty or familial disharmony may wonder, Where is God in all this? This week, Rev. Jeremiah Cheung shares the moving story of a helpless widow whom God delivered from the grip of debt, demonstrating His ability to overcome our adversities.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
• Share a recent time you faced a difficult situation. Did you run away, get angry, or face it with courage? How did your chosen way of coping impact the situation?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• Read the passage. How does this passage show the balance between God’s grace and human responsibility in overcoming adversity?
• What do the resources mentioned in this passage look like in today’s context? Identify specific resources available for believers.

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• Be honest: How do you typically respond to a difficult situation? When faced with one, do you humbly and honestly bring it to God and seek His guidance? Why or why not?
• How well do you recognize and appreciate the resources God has already provided in your life to face hardships? What encourages and hinders you from doing so?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• In what aspect of your life is God asking you to do your part and trust Him with His? Expound on how you will stay faithful while following through with your responsibility.
• What resources (people, skills, or spiritual gifts) can you identify and use to address that current challenge or opportunity in your life?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Praise the Lord for His unending grace and provision, even in our most difficult situations. Thank Him for the resources He has already given us—His presence, the support of others, and the strength to act. Rejoice that He partners with us in every trial, showing us that His power is made perfect in our weakness.
• Repent for the times you have doubted God’s provision or chosen to face challenges in your own strength rather than seeking His guidance. Ask for forgiveness for not recognizing or using the resources He has graciously provided, and pray for a heart that humbly depends on Him in every circumstance.
