Another Year Dawns
2020 is an important year for the Christian Bible Church of the Philippines. The Discipleship Center, which has taken three and a half years to complete, will be inaugurated on April 5, the exact date of the church’s 33rd anniversary. This is a major milestone for the church.
Fulfilling Our Purpose
In 2013, through the leading of the Holy Spirit, our church leaders and co-workers had rewritten the vision and mission of the church:
- Our vision: To see generations of Christ-like disciples transforming lives and families, impacting communities and nations for the glory of God.
- Our mission: To know God, love people, and make disciples.
- Our core values: Intimacy with God, Rooted in the Word, Family-oriented, Life-on-life Discipleship, Servant Leadership, and Community-Relevance.
The Path Ahead
In Joshua 3:3-4, we see: (Joshua) giving orders to the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits between you and the ark; do not go near it.”
The path ahead of us is one that we had never tread before. We must look to the ark of the covenant of the Lord our God and follow closely, step by step. With the Holy Spirit’s guidance, we aim to become a true disciple-making church. It is not important how many people meet in the discipleship center; what is most important to us is how many people become the Lord’s disciples, how many become the salt and light of the world.
A focus on what’s worthwhile
Church, when you enter the Discipleship Center, are you willing to take on greater responsibilities for the Lord? The great missionary William Carey is famous for saying, “I am not afraid of failure. I am afraid of succeeding at things that don’t matter.“ Likewise, we are not afraid of failure, we are only afraid of succeeding at things that don’t matter. Failure is not frightening, because we can learn from it. The most frightening thing is that we succeed in things that are not worthwhile.
Let us work together to build a true disciple-making church that will fulfill the Great Commission of the Lord Jesus.
