God speaks to us through His creation and through His Word but listening for His voice does not come naturally to us. In this week’s message, Rev. Jeremiah Cheung calls us to look, listen, and respond to our Lord and Redeemer. Audio and video for this message are now available.

Scripture Passage
Psalm 19

Discussion Questions

1. What is your biggest takeaway from this message?

2. Read vv.1-6. In what ways can we hear the sound of God’s silence? Read Rom.1:20 and Ps.14:1. Share an experience when you have heard the silent voice of God? Reflect: Has there been a time when God’s glory was shown through nature yet I did not see/hear Him? What hindered me from seeing/hearing Him?

3. Read Heb.1:3, Ps.72:5, and Ps.29:10. The psalmist declares that God’s sovereign control is seen through the sun. Share an experience when you struggled with God’s sovereignty? In what area of your life do you have a hard time embracing this Truth?

4. Read vv.7-10. What are the terms used to refer to God’s word? Why are several terms used to refer to the law of the Lord? Can you share and explain how each one is distinct? In v.10, why is the law of the Lord more precious than pure gold and sweeter than honey from the honeycomb? In what ways have you experienced God’s word as more precious than gold and sweeter than honey?

5. Read vv.11-14. How did the psalmist respond to the voice of God (2 ways)? Apart from God’s forgiveness, he also needed a Redeemer, why? For you, do you think you need a Redeemer? Why? Read Hos.10:8, Psa.22:1, and Matt.5:17. Why is it important to focus on following Christ instead of other people in the Bible?

6. In what ways are you struggling with hearing God’s voice right now? How would you like to respond to God’s voice?

Scripture Passage
Luke 5:1-11

Discussion Questions

1. What is your greatest takeaway from this message?

2. Read v. 3. Describe the scenario when Simon first said yes to Jesus. What was Simon’s attitude when Jesus interrupted him. What was Simon’s experience of God’s best plan in this small yes? (There are 3). What interruptions from God have you experienced? How did you respond? Reflect: Are you too busy to let God interrupt you?

3. Read v. 4-10a. What was Jesus’ second request to Simon? What are the 2 challenges of Jesus’ request to Simon? With Simon’s knowledge, expertise, and experience, how did he respond to Jesus? What is it that Jesus is commanding you to do but you find it unreasonable and illogical? How did Simon experience God’s best by saying yes to Jesus (v. 6-7)? How did Simon respond after experiencing Jesus (compare v. 5a and 8-9)? Why is ‘Simon’ changed to ‘Peter’? Reflect: Who is Jesus in your life and who are you in Jesus?

4. Read v. 10b-11. What was Jesus’ third request to Peter? From small yes to big yes, now Jesus asked for the ultimate yes. How is catching fish similar/different to catching men (read John 10:10)? How did Peter’s priority change? How did Peter’s identity change?

5. What is God asking you to do through His word? How would you like to respond to God’s call? What is hindering you from saying yes to God?

[skipto time=8:19]08:19[/skipto] 1. They are too busy to receive Him

Scripture Passage
John 13:34-35 / 1 John 4:11-12

Life Group Discussion Questions

1. Please share your key take away from this message.

2. “A new command I give you: Love one another.” (John 13:34). What are the three important characteristics of the new commandment?
a. The new command is an issue of the inner life. What does this mean? What does ‘spiritual body consciousness’ mean?
b. Why do we say that new command is about boundless love?
c. Why can the new command only be attained by grace?

3. To love brothers and sisters in Christ, what are the things we should NOT do? Which of the three aspects do you find most difficult?

4. To love brothers and sisters in Christ, what kind of love should we have? Do you have any experience you can share?

Scripture Passage
James 3:1-12

Life Group Discussion Questions

1. James teaches us that our tongues play a strategic role in our spiritual lives. Our tongues show and direct our spiritual maturity. As you look at your past week, what do your words reveal about your heart? How can controlling your tongue in this area help you become more mature?

2. Read James 3:6-8. How does the Scriptural view of our tongues (and therefore our hearts) differ from what the world says? Which one reflects a more accurate picture of your experience? Why?

3. Jesus is the Savior who saves us from our own restless and evil hearts. Through Him, our tongues can become a force of good. How has He changed your tongue? What do you need to surrender to Jesus to open your tongue to His transformative power?

Scripture Passage
1 John 4:19

Life Group Discussion Questions

1. What is the most significant thing you have learned from this message?

2. Is God over-demanding in His desire for us to love Him with the love we had at the beginning? What do you think would be the outcome if we love Him only with natural love?

3. Our first love must constantly grow.

A) On one perspective, this means two difficult things:
* First, “It must be confronted by the Cross.” What experience/s do you have about this?
* Second, “We must not love this world.” What does `this world’ refer to? What are your experiences with regards to this?

B) On a positive note: this means: “We must always live in God’s love”. What does living in God’s love mean? Can you share your past experiences about this?
