Read Today’s Scripture Passage

Luke 17:11-19

Life Group Discussion Guide

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
• Share about a time you received something from God and later realized you did not fully pause to give thanks. What encouraged and hindered you from immediately expressing gratitude?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• Read the passage. What circumstances brought the ten lepers together? What does this reveal about the effect of suffering on human relationships?
• Why was it significant that one of the lepers was a Samaritan? How does this highlight the inclusiveness of God’s grace?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• In seasons of suffering, do you find your heart becoming more empathetic toward others or more withdrawn and self-focused? Where is this rooted?
• As you reflect on the past year, where do you see gratitude growing in your heart, and where is it still lacking?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• How can you cultivate a lifestyle that not only seeks grace but continually returns to give thanks?
• What step of obedience is God calling you to take that requires faith in action?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Praise the Heavenly Father for being the God who is rich in mercy and abundant in grace. Thank Him for meeting us in our suffering, hearing our cries for mercy, and healing us according to His will. Rejoice that He is not only our Healer but also our Savior who grants grace upon grace. Give thanks that through Christ, we have received salvation, restoration, and hope for both this life and eternity.
• Repent for the times you have sought God’s grace without returning to Him with a thankful heart. Ask for forgiveness for moments when you have taken His mercy for granted or focused more on the gift than the Giver. Pray for a humble and grateful heart that continually recognizes your need for God’s grace and responds with faith, obedience, and thanksgiving in all circumstances.

Read Today’s Scripture Passage

Luke 2:1-14

Life Group Discussion Guide

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
• Share a recent instance you experienced God working through something that felt ordinary, inconvenient, or unexpected at the time. What helped you see and approach the situation differently?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• Read the passage. How does Caesar Augustus’ decree for a census show God’s sovereignty over history and human authority?
• What does the angel’s announcement teach us about who the Gospel is for and why everyone needs it?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• Do you truly believe that the Gospel is for you personally—that you’re a sinner in need of the Savior—not just for others? What makes you say so?
• How does knowing that Jesus chose an ordinary and humble life affect the way you see your own life and limitations?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• What is one area of your life where God may be inviting you to trust His sovereignty this season?
• How can you reflect Christ’s humility in your relationships, school/workplace, or community this Christmas?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Praise the Heavenly Father for being the sovereign God who rules over history, kings, and events according to His perfect will. Thank Him for sending Jesus Christ—humble yet glorious, ordinary yet extraordinary—to dwell among us and reveal His saving love. Rejoice that through Christ, His glory has returned and His presence is now with us. Thank Him for the Gospel that brings great joy, peace, and salvation to all who believe.
• Repent for the times you have sought peace apart from faith in Christ and trusted more in your own understanding than in God’s sovereign plan. Ask for forgiveness for overlooking Jesus’ humility and resisting His lordship when it challenges your pride, comfort, or expectations. Pray for a heart that truly believes, delights in, and lives in response to the Savior who was born for you, died for you, and rose again for you.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
• When was a time you almost missed a good opportunity because you hesitated or were distracted?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• Read the passage. What does Bartimaeus’ use of the title “Son of David” tell you about how he understood who Jesus is?
• How do Bartimaeus’ three actions (throwing his cloak, jumping to his feet, and coming to Jesus) illustrate faith?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• What obstacles (e.g., people’s opinions, fears, habits, or insecurities) tend to silence you or hold you back from seeking Jesus wholeheartedly? Where is this rooted?
• What part of Jesus’ character do you need to embrace and trust more right now?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• How can you intentionally grab opportunities this week to encounter Jesus (e.g., in prayer, Scripture, community, or obedience)?
• What specific obstacle will you remove or lay aside so you can follow Jesus with less distraction?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Praise the Heavenly Father for revealing Himself even to those the world overlooks, just as Jesus stopped for Bartimaeus. Thank Him that we are never beyond His notice, and that He opens the eyes of our hearts to see His mercy, truth, and presence. Rejoice that He gives us opportunities again and again to encounter Jesus and that His compassion meets our deepest needs.
• Repent for the times you let fear, discouragement, or the opinions of others silence your cry for Jesus’ mercy. Ask forgiveness for the moments when you chose convenience, comfort, or doubt over stepping forward in faith. Pray that you may lay aside every obstacle and open your heart fully so that your spiritual eyes may see Jesus clearly and follow Him on the road of the cross.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
– Share a moment when you realized you were completely helpless and had no choice but to ask God for mercy. How did you approach God? How did He respond?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
– Read the passage. How does Bartimaeus’ use of the title “Son of David” show his insight into the true identity and mission of Jesus?
– What does it mean to be “poor in spirit,” and why is this essential for understanding the invitation of the Gospel?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
– Where do you see yourself clinging to self-sufficiency instead of embracing your spiritual poverty before God? Where is this rooted?
– How do you internally and externally respond when Jesus’ call to discipleship feels like self-denial rather than personal gain? What encourages and hinders you from following Him?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
– What specific step can you take this week to practice spiritual awareness (e.g., slowing down, listening, or being more reflective before God) and intentionally respond to the Gospel this season (not only by receiving its gift but by examining your heart in light of it)?
– What action can you choose that reflects Jesus’ model of servanthood and mercy toward someone in your life?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
– Praise the Heavenly Father for the Gospel that not only saves but lovingly uncovers what is broken within us so we may experience true healing. Thank Him for the mercy of Jesus, the Son of David, who sees the spiritually poor and responds with compassion, grace, and truth. Rejoice that He invites us to know Him more deeply, and in knowing Him, to understand our true identity as His children.
– Repent for the times you have relied on your own strength, performance, or achievements instead of embracing your spiritual helplessness before God. Ask forgiveness for building false identities and resisting the Gospel’s work of exposure and transformation in your heart. Pray that you may humbly come to Jesus as Bartimaeus did—aware of your need, ready to listen, and willing to follow Him with a heart of service and self-denial.

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)

When James and John asked Jesus for positions of honor, He seized the opportunity to teach His disciples about what true success is in God’s Kingdom. This Sunday, Rev. Jeremiah Cheung draws from this scripture passage to explain the difference between worldly success and spiritual success.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
• When you hear the word “glory,” what images or ideas usually come to your mind? How would you describe it to an unbeliever?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• Read the passage. What exactly were James and John asking from Jesus, and what does this reveal about their understanding of success and glory?
• How does the concept of Kingdom-actualization differ from self-actualization? Identify how this is reflected in today’s society.

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• Are you pursuing the glory of the world or the glory of the cross in your dreams, decisions, and desires? If others looked at your life, would they say that your goals are more centered on personal fulfillment or on advancing God’s Kingdom?
• How do you honestly feel when God calls you to suffer, sacrifice, or take the lower place instead of being exalted? Where is this rooted?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• What is one practical way you can choose the way of the cross instead of the way of comfort or recognition this week?
• Who is one person God is calling you to serve intentionally, even when there is no recognition or reward?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Praise the Heavenly Father for the perfect example of true success revealed through Jesus Christ. Thank Him that though the world saw failure in the cross, Heaven declared victory through His sacrifice. Worship Him for showing us that true glory is not found in power, position, or riches, but in obedience, humility, and love. Thank Him that through the cross, we have received grace, forgiveness, and a new purpose to live not for ourselves but for His Kingdom.
• Repent for the times you have chased after the world’s definition of success—seeking recognition, control, comfort, and fulfillment over faithfulness and surrender. Ask for forgiveness for the moments you desired to be served instead of choosing to serve others with humility. Confess the times you have prioritized self-actualization over Kingdom-actualization, and surrender your ambitions, goals, and desires to God’s perfect will. Ask Him to renew your heart to joyfully follow the way of the cross.

Read Today’s Scripture Passage

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
• When you hear the word “power,” what is the first image or person that comes to your mind? Why?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• Read the passage. What were James and John asking for, and what kind of power were they pursuing?
• Identify other passages in the Bible wherein Jesus showed the reversal of power through His three roles (Model, Liberator, and Lord).

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• When your desires clash with God’s will, how do you usually respond? Which one usually wins in your heart?
• Have your personal ambitions ever been disguised as “good intentions,” even in serving God? What aspect of your life do you usually feel the need to race for recognition, control, or influence?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• What “worldly power” do you need to surrender so you can walk more freely in God’s power?
• Who is one specific person God is calling you to serve without expecting anything in return? How can you serve them this week?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Praise the Heavenly Father for revealing the true meaning of power through Jesus Christ. Thank Him that true greatness is not found in control, position, or dominance, but in courageous obedience and self-giving service. Worship Him because Jesus is not only the perfect Model of servant leadership, but also the victorious Liberator and the rightful Lord. Thank Him that through Christ, we are freed from the false power of this world and empowered to serve with humility and confidence.
• Repent for the times you have chased after worldly power instead of resting in God’s strength. Ask for forgiveness for competing with others, craving recognition, and allowing selfish ambition to shape your decisions—even in the name of good intentions. Confess the moments you have tried to control instead of serve, and lead instead of love. Surrender your understanding of greatness, and ask God to realign your heart with the way of the Suffering Servant.

1. Magdasal bilang panimula.

2. Engage with one another (15-30 mins)
• Share a time na nagtiwala ka sa isang tao o sa isang bagay nang may simpleng faith tulad ng isang bata. Paano naging makabuluhan ang experience na iyon?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
• Growing up, what did you observe about how faith (or lack of it) affected your household atmosphere?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• Read the passage. What is the connection between the fear of the Lord, work, and the enjoyment of its fruit?
• How does the flow of God’s blessing from the individual to the family and then to the nation impact how you view the importance of family as the basic unit of society?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• How would you honestly describe your current fear of the Lord (e.g., deep, growing, stagnant, or inconsistent)? Where is this rooted?
• How is your walk with God currently affecting your home (e.g., brings peace, growth, tension, or spiritual dryness)? Why?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• What is one specific area this week where you will intentionally walk in the fear of the Lord rather than convenience or comfort?
• What is one intentional way you can become a channel of blessing to someone in your family, Life Group, or community this coming week?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Praise the Heavenly Father for being a generous and faithful God who delights in blessing His people. Thank Him that the fear of the Lord leads not to bondage but to joy, fruitfulness, and lasting impact. Celebrate that His blessings do not stop with one person but overflow to families, generations, and even nations. Thank Him for the gift of work, the privilege of family, and the calling to become channels of His grace for others.
• Repent for the times you have lived casually before God, choosing convenience over obedience and comfort over reverence. Ask for forgiveness for the moments when you pursued blessings apart from the Blesser, or when your attitudes, words, and actions blocked the flow of God’s grace to your family and others. Confess areas where fear of people, fear of loss, or pride replaced the fear of the Lord, and ask God to realign your heart with holy reverence and humble obedience.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)
• What is one small “blessing” in life right now that might easily become an idol if not guarded carefully?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)
• Read the passage. How does it show that salvation is fully dependent on God’s grace rather than human effort?
• What does this passage teach you about the difference between external obedience and the condition of the heart?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)
• What are the things in your life right now (e.g., money, comfort, reputation, achievements) that may be competing with God? If God were to ask you to sacrifice one of those today, what would be the hardest to leave and let go? Why?
• Examine yourself: Are you more like the rich young man (holding back) or like Peter (willing to leave things behind) at this season of your life? Why?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)
• What is one practical step you can take this week to loosen your grip on something that has become an idol?
• Who can you encourage or walk with this week to help them grow in their understanding of God’s grace?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)
• Praise the Heavenly Father for the gift of eternal life made possible through Christ alone. Thank Him that salvation is not dependent on your goodness, wealth, or effort, but fully on His amazing grace. Rejoice that Jesus lovingly exposes the idols of the heart so that you may walk in true freedom. Celebrate His promise that every sacrifice made for His sake is rewarded both in this age and in the age to come.
• Repent for the times you have relied on your own morality, achievements, or resources to feel secure or worthy before God. Ask forgiveness for allowing wealth, comfort, and self-effort to take the place of trust in His grace. Pray that you may surrender whatever competes with Jesus in your heart, and that you would learn to follow Him wholeheartedly, believing that He is worth more than anything you could ever give up.
