  • What is something you’ve seen or experienced that made you think, “That’s not fair”? What made it seem unfair? What thoughts or feelings arose in your heart toward God?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)

  • Read the psalm. What caused Asaph to question whether following God was worth it? How do we see this today?
  • What three things did Asaph begin to see differently when he turned his eyes toward God? What do these reveal about how God wants you to see your circumstances?

4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)

  • What situation in your life currently causes you to question whether following God is worth it? How has this affected your view of God?
  • When you are struggling, do you tend to become more self-focused or more considerate of how your struggles may affect others? What does Asaph’s example challenge you to shift your response?

5. Empower the hands (15-20 mins)

  • What is one worldly source of satisfaction you need to hold more loosely or let go of? What would it look like to intentionally find greater satisfaction in God instead?
  • How can you remind yourself this week of God’s presence, guidance, and value when your circumstances make you doubt Him?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)

  • Praise God that even when the world feels unjust and circumstances are confusing, He remains good, faithful, present, and sovereign. Thank Him that He does not leave us to figure out life on our own, but gives us His presence, guidance, and wisdom. Thank Him that when everything else fails to satisfy, God Himself is enough, and that our relationship with Him is our greatest treasure.
  • Repent for the times you have allowed envy, comparison, disappointment, or the apparent prosperity of others to make you question God’s goodness and faithfulness. Repent for seeking satisfaction in wealth, relationships, achievements, comfort, or other things instead of finding your deepest satisfaction in God. Ask God to forgive you for being self-focused in seasons of struggle and to help you turn your eyes back to Him, trust His wise arrangements, and see your circumstances through His eyes.

  • If you knew you only had one year left to live, what would you start, stop, and continue pursuing?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)

  • Read the psalm. What truths about God and human life helped David move from anger and frustration to humility and hope?
  • Why does David end the psalm by describing himself as a stranger and sojourner? How should that shape a believer’s priorities?

4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)

  • Since becoming a Christian, how have you viewed life’s purpose? What are you striving to gain in your daily work and routines? What temporary pursuits (success, wealth, achievements, reputation, comfort, approval, etc.) are most likely to distract you from living for God?
  • What area of your life have you not fully surrendered to God’s lordship? Why has it been difficult to let Him rule over it?

5. Empower the hands (15-20 mins)

  • How can you intentionally “number your days” this week by making one decision that reflects God’s priorities rather than the world’s?
  • How can you intentionally invest in building God’s kingdom by discipling, encouraging, or sharing your faith with someone this week?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)

  • Praise God because He is the eternal and sovereign Lord whose love never changes, even though our lives are brief and fragile. Thank Him for giving our life true meaning, patiently disciplining us as a loving Father, and offering forgiveness and hope through His grace so we can live with an eternal purpose.
  • Confess the times you have wasted your life pursuing temporary things, relied on your own strength, argued or reacted sinfully toward others, or resisted God’s discipline. Ask God to forgive you, help you surrender every area of your life to His lordship, give you wisdom to number your days, and enable you to live faithfully for His kingdom until the end.

  • Share how you usually address God in your prayers. Do you refer to Him as your Heavenly Father? Do you acknowledge Jesus and the Holy Spirit as well in your prayers? Where do you think this is rooted?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)

  • Read the psalm. Why was the psalmist able to bring his honest complaints to God without turning away from Him?
  • How do the events surrounding Jesus’ death and resurrection help us understand the hope found at the end of Psalm 88?

4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)

  • Are you completely honest with God in prayer, or do you find yourself hiding your true emotions from Him? What keeps you from being fully open?
  • Have you been tempted to stop praying because God seems silent or slow to answer? What does that reveal about your perception and expectations of Him?

5. Empower the hands (15-20 mins)

  • What is one burden or unanswered prayer that you will intentionally continue bringing before God instead of giving up on? What can you do this week to remind yourself to wait expectantly for God rather than assuming He is absent or late?
  • Who do you know may be walking through a dark season? How can you encourage them with God’s presence and the hope found in Christ?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)

  • Praise the Heavenly Father because He remains the God who saves, hears, and stays with His people even when life feels dark, and His answers seem delayed. Thank Him that Jesus entered the deepest darkness on our behalf so that we can have the hope of new life and the assurance that we are never alone in our suffering.
  • Ask God to forgive you for the times you have doubted His goodness, stopped praying, or believed He had abandoned you when your circumstances did not change. Pray for a heart that continues to seek Him with honesty, perseverance, and confident hope, trusting His perfect timing and His unfailing presence even in the darkest seasons.

  • Read the psalm. What three descriptions does the psalmist use to explain who God is to His people during times of trouble? Identify other passages in the Bible that also emphasize these characteristics.
  • What does the phrase “Be still and know that I am God” mean? How is it different from simply resting or doing nothing?

4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)

  • In what ways has fear been influencing your decisions or attitudes recently? Where does this fear come from?
  • Look back at your past month. How often do you intentionally remember and thank God for what He has done in your life? How will remembering His faithfulness affect your trust today?

5. Empower the hands (15-20 mins)

  • What is one practical way you can cultivate stillness before God this week so that you can better trust His will amidst your circumstances?
  • Who in your life is going through a difficult season? How can you encourage that person this week by pointing them to God as their refuge and strength?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)

  • Praise God for He alone is our unshakable refuge, strength, and ever-present help. Thank Him for His constant presence, His faithfulness through every season, and the many ways He has protected, sustained, and provided for us even when life felt uncertain. Pray that our confidence in His unchanging character will continue to grow as we remember His mighty works.
  • Ask for forgiveness for placing your security in temporary things such as possessions, achievements, relationships, health, or your own ability to control situations. Repent of allowing fear, anxiety, or self-reliance to take the place of trusting Him. Pray for a heart that willingly lets go of control, rests in God’s sovereign rule, and finds lasting security in His presence alone.

  • When you hear the phrase, “Praising God for 24 hours,” what thoughts and feelings come out? Does it sound joyful, tiring, unrealistic, or something else? Why?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)

  • Read the psalm. What is the difference between praising God for what He has done and praising Him for who He is? Why are both important?
  • What specific attitudes and actions describe someone who fears God?

4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)

  • Which area of fearing the Lord needs the most growth in your life right now: controlling your words, turning away from evil and doing good, or pursuing peace? Why?
  • What aspect of your life is pride, hidden sin, or self-reliance keeping you from experiencing God’s nearness? What would it look like to humbly seek Him and surrender these to Him?

  • Are you more likely to praise God only when life is going well, or have you learned to praise Him even in difficult seasons? What does this reveal? Identify one practical habit you can start this week to help you praise God throughout your day aside from church, ministry, or quiet time.
  • How can you intentionally use your words this week to bring encouragement, truth, and life to someone around you?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)

  • ​​Praise God because He is worthy of continual praise. Thank Him for being our Deliverer, Provider, and the God who draws near to those who seek Him. Thank Him for His faithfulness in every season, for sustaining us through difficulties, forgiving our sins, and proving that He is always good and trustworthy.
  • Ask God to forgive you for the times you have praised Him only when life was going well while complaining, doubting, or relying on yourself during hardships. Confess any careless words, sinful actions, or unwillingness to pursue peace. Ask Him to cultivate in you a genuine fear of the Lord, a heart that continually seeks Him, and a life that reflects His goodness through both your words and your actions.

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)

  • Read the psalm. What truths about God establish why He alone is worthy of our worship?
  • What four characteristics describe the person who may approach and worship the Holy King?

4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)

  • When you worship God (whether privately or with others), what usually occupies your heart and mind? Is your focus primarily on God or on yourself? Where is this rooted?
  • Which area of holiness do you most need God to work on right now: your actions (clean hands), motives (pure heart), devotion (devoted spirit), or words (truthful lips)? Why?

5. Empower the hands (15-20 mins)

  • Do you truly live as though everything you have belongs to God, or do you tend to treat your possessions, abilities, or achievements as your own? What is one practical way you can acknowledge God’s ownership over everything you have this week?
  • How can the truth that Jesus is the King of Glory influence the way you interact with your family, coworkers/classmates, friends, or neighbors this week?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)

  • Praise the Heavenly Father because He alone is worthy of our worship. Thank Him for being our Creator, Sustainer, Holy King, and King of Glory. Express your gratitude that everything we have comes from Him, and that through Jesus we can confidently come into His presence with hope and joy. Pray that He may help us continually worship Him for who He is, not merely for what He can give.
  • Pray for forgiveness for the times you have allowed other things to compete for God’s rightful place in your heart. Confess where your actions, motives, devotion, or words have fallen short of His holiness. Ask Him to cleanse your hands, purify your heart, strengthen your devotion to Him alone, and make your speech truthful, so that your life may become a sincere act of worship before the King of Glory.

  • Praise the Heavenly Father for being our faithful Refuge, only Lord, greatest Treasure, and eternal Portion. Thank Him for never abandoning us, for faithfully guiding us through His Word, and for giving us exactly what is best according to His perfect wisdom. Rejoice that our security is not found in our circumstances but in His unchanging presence. Thank Him that through Jesus Christ, we have the sure hope of eternal joy and everlasting fellowship with Him.
  • Repent for the times you have trusted in yourself, other people, or the things of this world more than you have trusted in God. Ask for forgiveness for allowing idols to compete with Him for first place in your heart. Confess the times you have complained, compared yourself with others, or doubted that His portion for you is good. Pray that the Holy Spirit would deepen your trust in God, teach you to treasure His presence above all else, and help you continually seek His guidance so that your life and your family will leave behind the lasting treasure of wholehearted faith in Him.

  • If you had to describe one aspect of God’s character through one of His names (Provider, Shepherd, Peace, Healer, etc.), which would you choose based on this season of life and why?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)

  • Read the psalm. Why is it significant that David used both Jehovah and Lord (Adonai)? What do these names reveal about God’s relationship with people?
  • How does this psalm connect God’s original commission to humanity with Jesus’ mission and the church’s calling today?

4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)

  • When you consider the greatness of God shown in creation and His care for humanity, what does that reveal about how you currently view yourself and your worth?
  • In what areas of your life do you acknowledge God as Jehovah (a relational God) but struggle to submit to Him as Lord and Master?

5. Empower the hands (15-20 mins)

  • This week, what is one intentional way you can pause and recognize God’s majesty in creation and turn that into worship?
  • What is one practical way you can live as God’s representative in your family, workplace, school, or ministry this week? Who is one person God may be calling you to intentionally disciple, encourage spiritually, or pray for as part of participating in His mission?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)

  • Praise the Heavenly Father because His name is majestic in all the earth and His glory is revealed in creation, in His victories, in His faithful care, and in His redemptive work through Christ. Thank Him that though humanity is small and undeserving, He chose to create us in His image, crown us with dignity, and invite us into relationship with Him. Rejoice that through Christ, what was broken by sin is being restored, and that He allows us to participate in His glorious mission of making disciples among all nations.
  • Repent for the times you have lived as though your identity, value, and purpose depend on your own strength, accomplishments, or failures instead of what God has declared over you. Ask for forgiveness for recognizing God as Savior while resisting Him as Lord and Master over every area of your life. Pray that your heart would submit more fully to Christ, trust His restoring work, and faithfully carry out the commission He has entrusted to His people for His glory.

  • Share about a time when someone felt distant from you (friend, family, mentor, etc.). How did that affect the way you related to them?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)

  • Read the passage. Instead of abandoning his faith, how does the psalmist respond when God seems distant?
  • What does the psalm teach about expressing negative emotions before God?

4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)

  • When you experience sadness, disappointment, confusion, or loneliness, do you tend to bring those emotions to God or suppress and carry them alone?
  • Where in your life have you been allowing your feelings or circumstances to define truth more than God’s Word?

5. Empower the hands (15-20 mins)

  • What is one practical way you can intentionally draw near to God this week, especially if you don’t feel like it? How can you create rhythms of worship, prayer, and remembrance that help sustain your faith in difficult seasons?
  • What truth from Scripture can you intentionally preach to yourself this week whenever discouragement or uncertainty comes?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)

  • Praise the Heavenly Father because He welcomes us not only in moments of joy but also in seasons of grief, confusion, loneliness, and longing. Thank Him that His steadfast love does not change even when His presence feels distant. Rejoice that through Christ, we have access to draw near to God and find refuge in Him. Thank Him for being our Rock, Refuge, and faithful guide even when the future feels uncertain.
  • Repent for the times you have allowed emotions, disappointments, or difficult experiences to pull your heart away from God rather than bringing them honestly before Him. Ask for forgiveness for suppressing your pain, relying on your own understanding, or seeking comfort apart from His presence. Pray that God would teach you to lament faithfully, to preach His truth to your heart, and to continue drawing near to Him even in seasons when He seems distant.

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)

  • Share about a season in your life that felt like a “wilderness” (dry, difficult, uncertain, lonely, or stretching). What did that season reveal about your relationship with God?

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)

  • Read the passage. What does David’s longing for God reveal about the difference between seeking God Himself and seeking only His blessings? How do we see this difference today?
  • How does Psalm 63 point us toward Jesus and the invitation to find ultimate satisfaction in Him?

4. Examine the heart (15-20 mins)

  • Where has comfort or routine quietly weakened your dependence on God?
  • What thoughts usually dominate your quiet moments? How are those thoughts shaping your mind, heart, and trust in God? Is there any fear, bitterness, anxiety, disappointment, or desire for control that God may be inviting you to surrender to Him?

5. Empower the hands (15-20 mins)

  • What is one intentional practice you can begin this week to cultivate a deeper longing for God (e.g., prayer, Scripture meditation, worship, solitude, journaling)? What would it look like for you to pursue satisfaction in God instead of temporary comfort or worldly substitutes this week?
  • When fear or anxious thoughts arise this week, what practical way can you redirect your attention toward worship and trust?

6. Engage with God in prayer (20-30 mins)

  • Praise the Heavenly Father because He alone satisfies the deepest thirst of the human soul. Thank Him that His steadfast love is better than life and remains faithful through every season—whether in abundance or in the wilderness. Rejoice that He does not abandon His people in difficult places but uses those seasons to draw us nearer, deepen our trust, and reveal His presence more fully. Thank Jesus that He entered suffering and experienced ultimate thirst so that we may receive eternal satisfaction and life in Him.
  • Repent for the times you have pursued comfort, control, achievement, relationships, or temporary satisfaction more than seeking God Himself. Ask for forgiveness for becoming spiritually passive, relying on blessings while neglecting the Blesser, and turning toward worry, fear, bitterness, or self-dependence during wilderness seasons. Pray that God would restore in you a desperate hunger for His presence, teach you to worship even in dry seasons, and form in you a heart that continually longs for Him, delights in Him, and leans on Him completely.
