While the Apostle Peter made mistakes over the course of his life, his gaffes and failures did not define who he was. In fact, his life served to highlight just how much we need God’s transforming grace. This week, Ptr. Michael Cariño reminds us that we who embrace the grace of God can turn our mess into a message, our trials into triumphs, and our failures into faithfulness. Through the kindness of God, we can be led to repentance and transformed into Real-Life Overcomers.

  • Who is John the Baptist? What kind of oath did John’s parents have? What was John’s own resolution?
  • As John decided to follow what God has called him to do, what challenges did John face? How did he overcome them?
  • Read Luke 1:17. What does it mean to be ‘in the spirit and power of Elijah’? What does this verse tell us about the 3 things John would accomplish? What do these entail?
  • Read John 3:30. “He must become greater; I must become less.” What is the background of John’s statement? What is his response to competition and comparison? Compare this with Saul’s response when David killed more than Saul. How is John’s attitude similar to Paul?
  • How did John respond when Jesus became more popular than him?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)

  • Do you struggle with giving glory and honor to God instead of yourself?
  • Reflect: Who is increasing in your life? Is it God or yourself?
  • Have you experienced being jealous of another person? Please share.
  • Share a time when you felt being compared to another person or felt threatened by competition. What was it like for you?

  • Personally, how can you let Christ increase in your life?
  • With the reflections you have from John’s story, how can these be helpful in your faith journey?

  • Who is Isaiah? What did Isaiah have to overcome?
  • Isaiah already knew about God’s holiness. What difference did it make for him to see and encounter God’s holiness?
  • Isaiah says, “I am a man of unclean lips.” What does this mean?
  • What mission did God have for Isaiah? How was Isaiah faithful to God’s commission?
  • How does God’s grace through Jesus bring you courage?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)

  • What does it mean for you that God is a holy God?
  • Have you realized the greatness of God’s holiness? How about the enormity of your sins? How about God’s grace? Please share your reflection on this.
  • Reflect: Are you willing to let your sins be cleansed by God? Is there a sin you are holding on and are not willing to be cleansed by God?

  • Is any service to God considered big or small? Is God telling you to serve Him in any way? How will you respond to it?

Life Group Discussion Guide

1. Start with a prayer

2. Engage one another (15-30 mins)

  • Choose 2 LG members to share a devotion they recently had.
  • Share a situation when you felt fearful/lack of courage.

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)

  • Who is Isaiah? What did Isaiah have to overcome?
  • Isaiah already knew about God’s holiness. What difference did it make for him to see and encounter God’s holiness?
  • Isaiah says, “I am a man of unclean lips.” What does this mean?
  • What mission did God have for Isaiah? How was Isaiah faithful to God’s commission?
  • How does God’s grace through Jesus bring you courage?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)

  • What does it mean for you that God is a holy God?
  • Have you realized the greatness of God’s holiness? How about the enormity of your sins? How about God’s grace? Please share your reflection on this.
  • Reflect: Are you willing to let your sins be cleansed by God? Is there a sin you are holding on and are not willing to be cleansed by God?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)

  • Is any service to God considered big or small? Is God telling you to serve Him in any way? How will you respond to it?
  • When faced with hardships in serving the Lord, how will you remain faithful and fearless?

6. Engage God in prayer (20-30 mins)

  • Pray for each other’s needs and concerns. (10-15 minutes)
  • Pray for our country. (10-15 minutes)
    • Safety and protection for frontliners, essential workers, and those who need to physically report for work.
    • House of Representatives currently deliberating and scrutinizing the Philippine Budget for 2021; for corruption to be avoided and funds appropriated wisely.
    • Government leaders to truly lead with integrity, love, justice, and righteousness.

Isang matinding karanasan ang tuluyang bumago sa buhay ni propeta Isaiah. Sa isang vision, nakita niya ang Diyos – nakaupo sa trono sa buong kaluwalhatian ng Kanyang kabanalan. Ngayong linggo, inaanyayahan tayo ni Ptr. Joseph Ouano na pag-isipan kung ang ating sariling mga tagpo sa banal na Panginoon ay nakapagdulot ng matitinding pagbabago sa ating mga buhay.

The prophet Isaiah was forever changed when he experienced a vision of the Lord seated on His throne in the full glory of His holiness. This week, Ptr. Joseph Ouano asks us to ponder whether our own encounters with the most holy Lord have led us to fundamental life changes.

Life Group Discussion Guide

1. Magdasal bilang panimula.

2. Engage with one another (15-30 mins)

  • Magbahagi ng iyong natutunan mula sa personal devotion.
  • Nagkaroon ka na ba ng isang karanasan kung saan nabago ang iyong buhay? Mangyaring ibahagi ito.

3. Engage the mind (15-20 mins)

  • Paano nakita ni Isaiah na siya ay makasalanan? Ano ang kasalanan na ikinumpisal ni Isaiah? Paano siya nilinis ng Panginoon?
  • Bakit mahalagang ikumpisal ang ating mga kasalanan sa Panginoon?
  • Ano ang ipinagawa ng Panginoon kay Isaiah? Ano ang mensahe ng Panginoon para sa Israel?
  • Bakit isinugo ni Isaiah ang kaniyang sarili upang magpahayag ng mensahe?

4. Engage the heart (15-20 mins)

  • Para sa iyo, masasabi mo bang kasama mo ang presensiya ng Diyos? Magbahagi ng iyong sariling karanasan.
  • Paano mo mas nakikita ang iyong mga kasalanan kung ito ay iyong ikukumpara sa kabanalan ng Diyos?
  • Ipagmuni-muni: May mga kasalanan ka bang hindi mo pa ikinukumpisal sa Panginoon?

5. Engage the hands (15-20 mins)

  • Pagkatapos magmuni-muni, kung ikaw ay may nakitang kasalanan, magtuon ng ilang sandali upang ito ay ikumpisal sa Diyos.
  • Paano mo ibabahagi ang kabutihan at pagmamahal ng Diyos?

6. Maglaan ng oras para sa pagdadasal (20-30 mins)

  • Ipagdasal ang mga pangangailangan at mga alalahanin ng bawat isa. (10-15 minutes)
  • Ipagdasal ang ating bansa. (10-15 minutes)
    • Kaligtasan at proteksiyon para sa mga frontliner at mga manggagawa na kailangan pumasok sa trabaho.
    • Ang Kapulungan ng mga Kinatawan ay kasalukuyang nag-uusap at sinisiyasat ang Badyet ng Pilipinas para sa taong 2021; Ipagdasal ang pagsupo ng katiwalian at pagtaguyod ng tamang paggamit sa pondo ng bayan.
    • Na ang ating mga pinuno sa pamahalaan ay mamuno ng may integridad, pag-ibig sa bayan, hustisya, at katuwiran.

  • How can you seek to please God? What are the idols in your heart that you need to get rid of?

    • God’s provision and wisdom for businesses affected by the pandemic.
    • Opportunities and provision for people who lost their jobs during this time.
    • Emotional and psychological support for families going through challenges
