How to Crash-Proof Your Life

By Ptr. Mike Cariño

Matthew 7:24-27
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.

In Matthew 5 to 7, Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount, which shows us how to build our lives. After the Sermon, Jesus used the story of the wise and foolish builders to tell His listeners that they must live according to what they’ve heard. Listening and knowing are not enough.

1. Recognize that being wise is not about what you KNOW. It is about what you DO with what you know.

2. Realize that KNOWING MUCH does not exempt you from storms. Life is not about avoiding storms. Instead, God calls us to have stronger lives that can weather the storm.

3. Remember that KNOWING MUCH does not guarantee life change. Are you only learning trivia about the Bible when you read it, or is your life being changed by what you’ve read?

I hear and I forget.
I see and I remember.
I do and I understand.
